What does Buffalo ACT prep cover?
The ACT consists of four required sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science. If you choose to take it, there is an optional Writing portion as well. The exam has a time limit of just under three hours if you do not take the Writing test. The ACT Writing section has an additional 40-minute time limit. In the following paragraphs, we will take a closer look into each section so that you are more familiar with what you need to know for the exam.
Let's begin with the English portion of the test, which has 75 questions and a 45 minute time limit. Because there are so many questions to answer in such a narrow time limit, you will need to move through them quickly and effectively. These questions follow short reading passages that are provided to you. In the questions that follow the passage, you will be asked to revise and edit the text. You will need to pay close attention because you may be asked questions about the passage in its entirety, a group of sentences, or on just a few words of the text.
Next up is the Math section. You will have to answer 60 questions in 60 minutes. These questions will measure the mathematical skills you have gained through the years. A minute per question means that you need to work with speed and accuracy, so keep this in mind during your Math test prep.
The Reading section is next, and it consists of 40 questions that must be answered within the 35-minute time limit. In the Reading portion, you will also have passages to read. This time, the questions that follow will address your overall comprehension of the material. This part will measure your ability to think clearly, read a text carefully, and use many sources of information to make educated decisions.
The last of the required sections is Science. In this part of the exam, you will have 40 multiple-choice questions to answer within the 35-minute time limit. You will again be given passages and asked to answer questions based on what you read. The Science section will measure your reasoning, problem-solving, and scientific analysis abilities. In preparation, you will need to study concepts in physics, biology, space and Earth science, and chemistry.
If you need or choose to take it, the optional Writing section includes one topic that you will have 40 minutes to write about. If you take this part of the test, you should be able to write clearly, develop and support your ideas, and use reason. You will need to write logically and clearly, and your essay should reflect a firm grasp of written English.
