Learning should above all, be fun!Granted, most of my tutoring and teaching experience has been with Elementary School ages, but as with any aspect of life and learning, I believe it is possible to adapt any subject area to make it interesting, either by changing the way it is taught or switching the way it is viewed into a more positive mindset.I have an Elementary (K-8) general teaching certificate, a 7-12 English teaching certificate, as well as an AZ fingerprint clearance card and First Aid and CPR Certification. I enjoy working with all ages. My most enjoyable teaching and tutoring moments have been watching people problem solve a new way to accomplish a task on their own, and see how that enables them to start taking the initiative for their own learning and problem solving.

I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Biological Sciences in May 2015 and plan on going to Physician Assistant school in the next few years. While as an undergrad at ASU, I worked for the College of Letters and Sciences as a Writing Fellow, where I TA'd for online English 101 and 102 classes. Being an English TA while studying Biology might seem somewhat odd to people, but besides being interested in the sciences I have a passion for writing. I've written three novels of carious genres (thriller, murder mystery, and horror) and hope to get them published someday.My approach to tutoring is to help ensure that the student has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of what they're learning. While it may be possible to get through a class by memorizing seemingly disjointed facts, students will have a much easier time learning and remembering information if they understand why it's important in the first place, and how it relates to other things they've learned in the class or things they might know from their day to day lives.

Originally from Marin County, CA, I recently graduated from Whitman College, where I received my degree in astrophysics with a minor in Japanese. When I can train, I like to distance swim. In April 2012, I swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco, as well as the length of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Now, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Communication with an emphasis in Education. I currently work at Grand Canyon University as an Instructional Assistant for a few classes, meaning that I assist different professors with day-to-day tasks. Due to my job I work regularly with students in a variety of courses such as Sociology, Communication, and Psychology. I also help many students with their academic papers, lending a hand in terms of making sure they answer all parts of the paper and that everything flows smoothly. For me, the best moments are when I can sit down with a student that doesn't understand the content and through some time and effort, help them reach that "A-ha moment" where it all clicks together.
