Today we worked on a math section. The three students are at different levels but they are often able to help each other with certain things. Student 1 knows the most math. Student 2 knows a bit less but has strong figurative powers. All three are good at asking questions when they need to be asked.

The student did well on the science section I asked him to complete. We talked about the importance of pacing to make sure time is left for the last passages. Then, we finished discussing the reading section. We went over the humanities and science passages together, and then I had him do one by himself. He did well on it and feels confident about the reading section, so we moved on to the English sections. We covered punctuation and basic grammar, and we will finish up the rest of the topics of this section next time. I asked him to complete reading and science sections for our next session.

The student and I used this time to first debrief on the ACT he took a week ago. We talked a little about where he had success and where he had challenges, finishing by going over tricky math questions that he remembered. We next went over a practice test he had taken that week, starting with Math and then working our way through the rest of the test. He is still demonstrating consistency with his scores, getting only three or four questions incorrect per section, which shows excellent progress and retention. We ended by going over more practice math questions, focusing on the last 10 to 20 of practice tests so as to tackle the most difficult ones.
