How can LSAT tutoring help you?

The LSAT, or Law School Admission Test, is a standardized test that is offered four times a year. The exam consists of five different multiple-choice sections that each last 35 minutes. The test is taken on paper and is required for entrance into law school. The Reading Comprehension section focuses on law, natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The Analytical Reasoning section tests your ability to draw conclusions based on given guidelines. Logical Reasoning is broken into two sections and evaluates your ability to determine the main points of an argument and to analyze arguments. The Variable section is unscored, but used to test new types of questions. The Writing section is also unscored, but may be sent to each law school you have applied to and determines your ability to form and support an argument and use written English to effectively articulate an idea. The average LSAT score is 150, but many of the top law schools require a score of well over 160. Connecting with a tutor may be extremely helpful in preparing for such an important exam. LSAT Tutoring review by Kathryn in Phoenix, AZ
Before this session the student had taken another full practice test for her online class. The test she took had two logic games sections, and these were still the most challenging sections for her overall. We worked through the games that were the hardest for her, and discussed why what we did together was different from what she did on her own, and how to apply the strategies we use together to the test when she is taking it herself. We also talked about test taking strategies in general when it comes to logic games.

LSAT Tutoring review by Keith in Phoenix, AZ
I began with a general assessment of the student's background/familiarity with the LSAT and his perceived strengths and weaknesses. We then proceeded to review a practice test previously emailed to him; focusing on logical reasoning. He appeared to be catching on quickly to logical reasoning strategies.

Today we worked on logic for the entire session. The student still needs more practice with mapping rules.

LSAT Tutoring review by Michael in Phoenix, AZ
We primarily discussed logical reasoning strategies for "support/must be true" questions and "parallel reasoning" questions. We examined effective methods of diagramming arguments in the context of parallel reasoning questions and how to apply that framework in an efficient manner. We also did some minor work on logic games review and once again practiced the critical reading comprehension technique of skimming. This should be a major focus of her preparation from now until the test.

LSAT Tutoring review by David in Phoenix, AZ
The student and I worked on Practice Test #64. She struggled with the Logic Games section so we worked on that first. On one of the logic games, she missed an important diagramming clue, which caused quite a bit of difficulty. We discussed how to work on this type of game (advanced linear) and what to pay attention to and it seemed to help the student substantially. We worked on the game that she did not get to finish within the time constraint and she did not have much trouble with it. We also discussed several of the logical reasoning questions.
