Computer Science Tutoring review by Megan in Bellevue, WA
The student and I started his finals preparation by reviewing his final study guide and practice test. The student had a bit of trouble focusing during our session, but was able to get through a significant portion of the material.  We also reviewed his most recent test -- he got a 66/65! Great news!

Computer Science Tutoring review by Lorna in Bellevue, WA
Today we covered several poems and short stories that the student said were most likely going to be on her exam; Hills Like White Elephants, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, Good Country People, Rappaccini's Daughter, Sylvia Plath's "Metaphors" and Frost's "Road Not Taken." The student is unsure as to how much knowledge of these smaller topics will be required for the test, so we just did brief reviews of the characters and basic plot in each story, with me prodding the student to repeat and rephrase back to me most of the information. We also found a few quizzes from her school year on The Great Gatsby that had been overlooked, and she seemed to have retained much of the information. The student remembered a lot of the basics from the short stories. Hopefully a strong basis on the topics will be satisfactory.

The girls and I had a short session before their test tomorrow.  For student A, we brushed up on different math topics that she didn't want to forget about. She wrote out some important formulas/topics/etc. and also did some practice problems, mostly with geometry and fractions. I also reminded her to look over the short study guide that we made a few weeks ago.  Student B and I mostly focused on ratios, percent, and math problems that are particularly wordy and distracting.

We went through as much of the rest of chapter 6 as possible and part of chapter seven.  She was a bit behind on her homework.  Her test is Wednesday.  Chapter 6 was mostly SN1, SN2, E1, and E2.  Chapter 7 dealt with synthesis of alkenes.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Juan in Bellevue, WA
Today, the student and I began by discussing his work for the week. They have a project in social studies (to give a short speech on a famous American), and he has chosen Abraham Lincoln. We then moved on to homework, starting with science. He completed the assignment (hurricanes/tornados/thunderstorms) and moved onto math. They have an exam coming up, so we reviewed the given assignment (area/perimeter of various shapes).

The student and I worked on storing elements on a sorted linked list. We reviewed how to read input from the console stream and how to write out to a file. We have another session scheduled so that she can finish her assignment.
