Tutoring review by Orval in Orting, WA
We went over a variety of problems, form a past AP calculus exam. It involved such things as L'Hopital's rule, second and first fundamental theorems of calculus, linear approximations, and inverse functions. No work was left however, extra questions were created that resembled questions on the on the test for more practice. The student needed more practice on the 2nd fundamental theorem, so I created a few problems with it for him to do. He seem to have become comfortable enough now.

We got through a significant amount of the packet together, and will almost definitely finish it in the next session. The student is incredibly sharp and picks up on concepts very quickly. After just a few examples he was more than ready to tackle problems relating to: translations, rotations, reflections, and dilations.

Tutoring review by Robert in Orting, WA
At this session, the student and I covered topics for differentiation. We reviewed for a test he will be having at the end of this week. Topics included: constant, product, quotient, and trig rules for differentiation. We also started a discussion about the chain rule for differentiation as well as the use of second order and higher derivatives of functions, and the role they play in terms of distance, velocity, and acceleration. He and I also discussed how the use of higher order derivatives can be used to help sketch the graph of the original function.

Tutoring review by Joyce in Orting, WA
We spent the first hour going over the fraction practice problems I gave the student for homework. He remembered addition of mixed numbers. We continued to practice fraction operations, and he wrote detailed notes on the steps involved in each of the four operations. His attitude was excellent, as usual. For homework, I gave him one problem each of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of mixed numbers. Hopefully, he will do well on these. If he does, we will start decimals during our next session.

Tutoring review by Dina in Orting, WA
Today, the student completed textbook problems to practice for her upcoming tests. She needs to be careful with her negative signs, but is doing much better with inverse trigonometric derivatives.

Tutoring review by Connor in Orting, WA
We spent our first session covering systems of three equations with three variables. Some were "solve this system" and some were "set up this system based on a word problem and then solve" and, amazingly, it was not the setting up that was the student's problem. He was actually really stellar at translating English to math. His problem was the process for solving, and knowing which method to use and when to use it, that is, substitution or elimination. We went over rules of thumb, e.g. when one of the equations has only one or two variables in it, use substitution, and how to apply them to the algorithm of solving these systems. A very solid first session. Also on his test review, he was using matrices to solve systems of equations.
