The student and I spent our session today reviewing for her quiz on Friday. She seems to have a strong grasp on the material, and I am confident she can do well. I wish her the best of luck, and I look forward to hearing how it goes!

Today we did more codingbat exercises so that the student can get more comfortable with the basics of programming if statements and for loops. It seems like she is getting the hang of if statements but still needs a little work on for loops. At the end I told her to keep practicing the codingbat exercises because they're really helpful for practice and getting used to the programming syntax.

The student and I covered nested for-loops to traverse multi-dimensional arrays. We also added events to the calendar together so that he will be able to keep all of his due dates in mind going into the end of the semester. Next time, we will focus on loops again and cover the order of execution of nested loops.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Ryan in Vancouver
The student and I worked on the first checkpoint for his programming project. He needed careful assistance with most of it but stayed positive and was very engaged and asking lots of good questions. He was able to complete his entire assignment during our session and he was able to complete the entire second half with barely any assistance from me. I am confident that he will continue to improve over time.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Kirollos in Vancouver
In this session, we reviewed for both the student's Physics and Comp Sci midterms this week. For Physics, we just went over some kinematics problems that the student was confusing with projectile motion. I stressed the difference between acceleration due to gravity in the y-direction and acceleration due to some other outside force in the x-direction, which was confusing her. Afterwards, we did some Comp Sci review for converting between different number systems (binary, hexadecimal, and decimal). We also went over shortcuts and different ways of converting between them with several examples and practice problems.

Computer Science Tutoring review by Grace in Vancouver
We worked on a couple of sample excel files to show the added value of using Excel. We specifically worked on the simple functions involving addition, subtraction, and division. We also worked on the functions of sum, count, average and max. We need to work further on intermediate level skills such as making simple charts. Moving forward, it seems appropriate to work on organizational software; specifically on how to use MS Outlook.
