I am currently a High School Chemistry Teacher who got his degree in Mathematics with a minor in Chemical Engineering. I am passionate about the Stem Subjects and helping people learn. In my free time I like to read and play basketball. I also enjoy playing video games and I just started to do Crossfit which I am enjoying a lot. This past summer I worked with the Tucson Big Brothers Big Sisters picking up donations from all over the area.My teaching style is one that I like to think is extremely adaptable. Every student is different and so are their learning styles and preferences. My goal is to make the subject I am tutoring not only easier but fun. Math is my favorite subject in school and I know that it is an extremely intimidating subject for many students. My method of breaking down problems into their bare elements and working from there helps prevent students from shutting down because they have no idea what to do when they see a new problem. While I am here to help students do better in their classes I am also here as a mentor for schooling in general. I am always willing to help out with students who need more help outside of their classes. If there is a non-academic issue that arises while tutoring I will always do my best to help the student through because I believe that if the student is distracted he will not be able to focus on studying and their grades will suffer.

For four years I taught English in Japan to grades K-9, and what I learned was most important in teaching is to simply have a relationship with the children and be patient. Not everyone learns in the same way or at the same rate, and it's sometimes just an issue of finding a method that clicks.

ACT English Tutor • +45 Subjects
My name is Amanda and I would love an opportunity to tutor you! A recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, I am excited to be back in my hometown of Bellevue, WA. I graduated cum laude from the College of Arts and Sciences with high distinction in English and minors in Psychology and Communication Design, and hope to apply my analytical and communication skills to a career in law or public policy. While attending university, I spent my free time finding ways to positively impact and further educate my community through my involvement as a campus tour guide, writing tutor, sexual assault counselor, and Greek life leader. I love traveling and have visited over 25 different countries and am particularly interested in the ways that writing and culture have symbiotically shaped human history. As a college graduate and an alumna of a Seattle private school, I have personally experienced the pressures and difficulties facing most high school students. I love learning in any form and have taken the PSAT, ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Tests, so I understand the difficulty in finding a way to master both the material and the tests. I am well aware of the challenges that standardized tests present and love working with students to come up with a tailored arsenal of strategies and approaches to make the test easier and less intimidating. I have years of experience with reading comprehension, essay writing, critical analysis (including the identification of tone, argument, style, etc), argumentation, and editing, and a strong record of working well with my students. My style of teaching is pretty low-key, and I strongly believe in the power of communication and open discussion to make sure that my students and I are able to find the best ways to achieve their academic goals. That being said, I also understand that a high schooler's time is limited and valuable, and endeavor to work closely with my students and their families to create both short-term and long-term goals to make sure that we stay on track; my priority is ensuring a comfortable space for my students while building up the confidence and knowledge that they need to ace their essays and tests.Outside of my academic interests and experiences, I am passionate about food and the outdoors. I value education, efficiency, wit, kindness, and the Oxford comma, and am constantly searching for new challenges and opportunities. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to develop a relationship with a student where we can work together to accomplish his/her/their goals. I love getting to know new people and try my best to tailor sessions to my students, so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

Conversational Spanish Tutor • +6 Subjects
I have been teaching Spanish to children and adults for more than ten years. From Florida I moved to Albuquerque to study Communications at the University of New Mexico, and later I began working in the television production industry writing scripts in Spanish for a travel TV show. Later, I moved to Oviedo, Spain to complete my Master's degree in Spanish. After six years, I returned to the United States to study Education at City University of Seattle, and I began to work for the Bellevue School District. As a personal tutor, first I like to identify my student's strengths and needs to customize my lessons and present the material in an engaging and simple way. I usually start with simple and practical exercises before getting into the grammatical structure of the language, but I always emphasize real-life scenarios and the natural use of the target language. My communicative approach reflects global influences and a rich vocabulary.

I tutor reading, writing, science (physics, chemistry, biology), mathematics (all levels up to calculus), and MCAT preparation. Outside of academia, my favorite hobbies are swimming, playing badminton, cooking, and picking up new songs on my ukulele.

I am an SDET (engineeer) working at Samsung's R&D center in Bellevue, WA. I received a competitive, full ride(tuition, room, and board) to Emory University where I studied Physics and Applied Mathematics.I also have extensive experience working in tutoring. One of my most enjoyable moments in undergrad was working as a Research Assistant at Semyung University in optimizing the instruction of curricula for incoming college freshmen.I believe in a problem based approach rather than a lecture based one. Most deficiencies in scores are caused by gaps in the student's knowledge. Through assessment, we can identify where these areas are and fill them so the student has an internally consistent view.

Algebra Tutor • +4 Subjects
My name is Edward, I am just finishing up high school and will attend the University of Washington in the fall quarter of 2017. I have always been very proficient at math, scoring high grades in class as well as achieving high AP and SAT scores. I have experience tutoring friends and classmates unprofessionally and have achieved positive results. I want to apply my skills to the field of engineering, but will need to work part-time jobs in order to fund my college education. I see tutoring as a great way to help support myself as well as assist my clients with learning math.
