Tutoring review by Kristyn in Tumwater, WA
The student is in Algebra II/Trig. He is currently working on a chapter that introduces the unit circle, reference angles, trig functions, and graphing trig functions. We started with a quick review/check of the unit circle, trig functions (sin, cos, tan) and the related inverse functions (csc, sec, cot). He had no trouble with either of these topics. Next, we moved on to his current material. This included graphing sin and cos functions with changes in period and amplitude. We worked through a number of different examples as well as the equation for calculating period. He had little trouble with this material as well. Therefore, we looked ahead in the chapter and worked with vertical and horizontal shifts for sin and cos functions. I had him work through a few examples of each shift independently before combining shifts with his previous work (period and amplitude changes). We talked through a couple of different methods for him to check his work and see the relationships between the base function and transformed function. Overall, he seemed to understand the material, and he will continue to work through this material in the coming week.

Tutoring review by Mythilee in Tumwater, WA
Today, we reviewed the concepts that the student had from earlier this week, because she does not have math class until Friday. We went over MAD, IQR, Q1, Q3, mean, median, mode, and box and whisker plots. She's getting a lot better at remembering how to do each one and finishes them pretty quickly, so she feels a lot more confident about them. Her grade also rose to a 85%, so I was really happy about that. For practice, I gave her a couple problems I came up with that cover these specific topics. She will have a 3-hour math class on Friday, so we will cover everything she learns then during our next class.

Tutoring review by Robert in Tumwater, WA
Today I met with the student for our final session in preparation for her AP BC Calc exam on Tuesday. We started by focusing on high level concepts such as which method is required to solve a problem. After the high-level review we dove in and determined how each of those problems can be solved. The really positive news is we were able to solve all but two of the problems on part A of an exam without any guessing. The key right now for her is to do practice problems. Work through them regularly up until the exam. It will help tremendously on the multiple choice section to be familiar with the types of problems and to immediately recognize how to solve them.

Today we started reviewing for his final. We started with chapter 7. This chapter focused on simplifying expressions involving exponents. We then moved on to chapter 8 which involved factoring and expanding polynomial functions. For both chapters, the student needed an initial refresher on the subject, but was able to work through many of the problems independently after.
