What information can Cincinnati MCAT prep review?
The MCAT is a computer-based standardized test that is designed to assess a variety of medically relevant skills. There are four sections: Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Each section, except for the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills one, is timed for 95 minutes with 59 questions.
Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills covers 53 questions with a 90-minute time limit. Questions are split between nine passages, which are pulled from several humanities and social sciences sources. While you don't need specific knowledge of these subjects, you will need to have a firm grasp of English and solid reading comprehension skills. Questions will ask you to infer meaning from the material, extrapolate ideas from new contexts, and integrate different material to form one idea, among other things.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section serves to measure your understanding of different processes within living organisms. There are 10 passages with relevant questions, as well as 15 independent questions. Among the subjects featured here are organic chemistry, biochemistry, and general chemistry. You will need to know how organ systems and cells function, both together and independently.
There are 10 passages on the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section, each of which are followed by 4-6 questions. There are also 15 additional questions that don't relate to a passage. There are a variety of subjects tested in this section, such as introductory physics, general chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, and basic biochemistry. You will need to understand the biochemical, physical, and mechanical function of tissues, organs, and organ systems.
The Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior is set up like the above sections: 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 independent ones. This section has a heavy focus on the different health impacts behind social and psychological factors, social stratification, and other factors that are present in the medicinal field.
What are the benefits of different types of Cincinnati MCAT preparation?
There are a variety of different benefits behind each approach to MCAT prep. Whether you prefer to learn in a group setting or in a more personalized environment, Varsity Tutors can get you set up with the type of instruction that works for you. Our educational consultants can help guide you toward the best choice. Let's explore your options a bit more here, starting with a group class.
If you'd like to enroll in a Cincinnati MCAT prep class, you can participate in group discussions and activities that can give you the opportunity to build your skills for the exam. Led by an expert instructor, new classes start every week, allowing you to join a class when you're ready. You can choose between two- and four-week sessions that focus on different sections of the test. Group learning has been shown to help students retain information and skills on a greater level. During class, your instructor can demonstrate strategies and different ways to approach the questions on the exam. For instance, you can gain valuable insight into strategies for the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section. If a concept is too challenging, you can arrange to work with your instructor to work through any roadblocks.
On the other hand, perhaps you would benefit more from working with a private instructor who can appeal to your learning needs. When you work with a Cincinnati MCAT tutor, you can enjoy a learning experience that is completely tailored to your preferences. Your mentor can get to know your learning personality, the areas of the exam in which you have the most room to improve, your existing skills, and other qualities that can play a role in your study sessions.
One-on-one tutoring is designed to focus solely on the skills and concepts you need, rather than following a set curriculum. You don't have to study sections of the test that you are confident and prepared for. For instance, if you are skilled in the abilities covered by the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, your mentor can help you work through concepts covered by the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior.
How can I get signed up for Cincinnati MCAT prep?
