I started getting interested in Biology in the 10th or 11th grade. That was when I began to think about the world from a scientific perspective. I studied Biology at Wayne State University for five years on a presidential scholarship, for which I am eternally grateful! I minored in Chemistry after getting interested in the inner workings of organic chemistry. While going to college I earned money by tutoring classes I had already taken. I also offered "supplemental instruction" which were informal classroom question and answer sessions. I worked in a research lab after earning an undergraduate research fellowship and explored Physiology at the School of Medicine. Then went on to study Toxicology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. While there a decision appeared clear between focusing on research or teaching. I like teaching better. I truly enjoy spreading knowledge about Biology and Chemistry and finding fun ways to introduce people to these (often difficult) subjects.

I am originally from Orlando, Florida. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. Since graduation, I have worked with the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) and Florida GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Programs at the Florida A&M University Developmental Research School and Tallahassee Community College. These are collegiate preparation programs designed for low-income, first generation students seeking to attend four year institutions. Students are prepared for the academic rigor of collegiate level coursework by enrolling them in honors level core classes. I have worked extensively as a tutor with students in middle school, high school and college in areas such as Biology, Chemistry and various other natural and healthcare related sciences. While I enjoy tutoring a broad variety of subjects, I am most passionate about the Bio-Medical Sciences. In my experience tutoring, students enjoy the greatest gains in knowledge when we are able to find creative ways to effectively compartmentalize challenging concepts and complex information. This makes the learning process a lot more fun and enjoyable! As a tutor, one of my main goals is to improve students' confidence in the academic subject of challenge, and experience has taught me that positive results always follow. In my spare time, I enjoy watching sports, drawing, exercising and eating spicy food.

I recently graduated from the University of Houston with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, and I am in the process of transitioning to a research position. I chose to pursue a career in academia because I have always enjoyed the scientific process, and learning and teaching are some of the most enjoyable experiences a person can have.Through the course of my academic career, I have explored numerous topics. More importantly, I have conveyed complex ideas to others. One of the most important aspects of technical research is being able to communicate your thoughts effectively. I understand the importance of taking a step-by-step approach and packaging ideas in ways that people can visualize.I am, at my core, a technically-minded problem solver. I know what it takes to succeed at any academic level. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with any course or concept, I would be happy to help in whatever way that I can.

I received my B.S. in Chemistry in 2013 from California Polytechnic State University. I then went on to receive my M.S in Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. While obtaining my Masters' degree, I worked as teaching assistant for biochemistry lectures and microbiology lab courses, and found my love of teaching. Due to my positive student evaluations as a TA, I was offered an adjunct lecturer position for the 2015-2016 school year as the Microbiology Lab and Experimental Biology Lab instructor. I am now working to apply to Physician Assistant programs in New York. While I have primary taught college students, I also have experience working with elementary school students. While obtaining my B.S., I helped establish a program where myself, fellow students, and faculty members of the chemistry department would travel to local elementary schools to perform science experiments demonstrating basic scientific concepts to students. I am always eager to teach, and I believe my teaching style is helpful for students of all ages.I grew up playing soccer for 14 years in New Hampshire (my home state), and continued playing intramural soccer in college, and I have now moved on to coaching. In my spare time, I also enjoy reading, hiking, paddle boarding, and am currently learning how to play the guitar.
