I am a recent graduate from Hamline University, with a BFA in Creative Writing and a minor in English. During my time at Hamline, I worked as an in-class reading tutor for elementary school students. I believe strongly in the importance of language and literature, and am excited to help students succeed academically in those areas.

Helping all students achieve their learning goals is my goal, too! If you need help with speaking English (conversation, pronunciation, public speaking, accent reduction), academic English (essay writing, advanced grammar/vocabulary), or business English (presentations, industry specific vocabulary, interpersonal/intercultural communication), I am here for you! I have ten years of experience teaching ESL to students of all levels from all over the world. I have a BA in Language and Culture from Metro State Univ., St. Paul, Mn. and Advanced TEFL Certification from Hamline University, St. Paul, Mn.
Everyone can learn as long as they are interested. There are different learning styles, and I am willing to work with you to find the best method of learning for you.
I have worked as a tutor and teacher for ten years, and I am passionate about using my education and experience to help others succeed. I know how hard it is to learn a second language, but I will be here for you each step of the way!I have a BA in English from University of Northwestern: St. Paul and TEFL certificate from Hamline University. I started teaching as a college writing and grammar tutor during university, then tutored K-12 students at Sylvan and Huntington Learning Centers in the Twin Cities. I also taught students independently in piano, guitar, writing, and literature. After getting my TEFL certificate in 2017, I volunteer taught English at Neighborhood House and Open Door Learning Center. I started my current full-time EFL job in Sept. 2018.Two of my favorite hobbies are travelling and cross-cultural friendships. I live and teach English in Thailand now, and I love exploring the country with my Thai friends. I look forward to getting to know you more too!
There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student who has struggled with a concept to finally have their "ah-ha" moment. You can see the student's eyes light up with excitement and pride in themselves and you can feel their confidence in their ability grow. This is one of the small moments that starts to counteract the feelings of failure they may hold because they haven't understood a particular subject or can't grasp a specific content. I encourage students to contact me to start to work to their "ah-ha" moment.I have been tutoring for eight years and I have been working with students on their math skills ranging from elementary math to Algebra 2. I typically use the student's textbooks or resources that they have from their class to ensure that they are understanding the material they are being presented. This also makes sure that students are learning the exact concepts that they are struggling with and not a completely different concept.I am a recent graduate from Hamline University in Saint Paul and I studied Chemistry and Secondary Education to become a high school chemistry teacher. Due to my studies at Hamline University, I have a working knowledge of learning styles and I know how to create a learning environment that will fit a student's specific needs. This could look like being hands on with grouping in division with a tactile learner or using a visual grouping method in division with a visual learner. In addition to understanding how to create the correct learning environment for a student, I also do not give a student the right answer when they are ready to give up. Instead, I ask them a series of open ended questions that will lead them down the path to the right answer. In today's school system, there is a large emphasis on the correct answer. Due to this, students who don't understand the concept typically are given the answer by either the teacher or their classmates. Our classrooms do not honor the path students need to take to learn the concept for themselves. I offer students the space to take their time down the path and learn the material for themselves with my guidance.
I am a graduate of Hamline University. I received my Bachelors in Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a minor in English. I am currently the fellowship holder at the Bennington Writing Seminars where I will earn my Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing. For the past two years, I tutored students in Saint Paul Public Schools with the Minnesota Reading Corps. I’ve also worked with college-bound high school students at the Hamline Young Writers’ Workshop. In my experiences with tutoring, I’ve learned to connect with readers and writers of different age groups and academic backgrounds. I have extensive workshop experience with essay writing and editing for both academic and literary merit. I’m also an award winning writer and very active within local literary community. Since reading and writing is such a big part of my life, sharing my knowledge with others is an absolute joy. I believe that education can add a true sense of richness to one’s life, and that’s why I’ve made it the center of my life. In my free time, I enjoy running, skiing, baseball, ice fishing, and the arts.

Originally from central Minnesota, I earned my BA from Hamline University in 2013 with a degree in English, a concentration in creative writing, minors in women's studies and psychology, and a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. When I wasn't working on academics, I wrote for the newspaper, served as a new student mentor with transfer students, and worked at a toy store in a nearby mall. Currently, I'm working toward my MA in early childhood education from Concordia University. I also take Spanish classes. After tutoring middle and high school students in math, social studies, literature, writing, and Spanish during my undergrad, I completed a year of service with Minnesota Reading Corps as an elementary school literacy tutor. Now I work as a preschool teacher in a Spanish-English dual immersion preschool; I co-teach a class of 17 three and four year olds.Beyond academics, I love to bike around the Twin Cities, find new nooks to explore, read, and practice yoga. I've traveled to Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Panama, and hope to see more of Central and South America soon. I write and perform poetry, and coach a team of college slam poets. I'm interested in building positive, mutual mentoring relationships with those I tutor.

I am a recent graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, where I earned a Bachelor of Science with a dual major in Biology and Forensic Biology, graduating summa cum laude. My academic interests centered on genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Currently, I'm serving with AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity during a post-graduation term. Social justice is one of my core values, and it has guided both my studies in forensic science and my current service work. Tutoring allows me to stay connected to the subjects I'm passionate about. My primary focus is on biology-related subjects. I also enjoy tutoring in general chemistry and biochemistry. Outside of work, I mentor several high school students through my church. That experience has been deeply rewarding and has strengthened my skills in leadership and integrity. In my free time, I love rock climbing, snowboarding, and just about anything that gets me outdoors and active.
