After growing up in Minnesota, I attended and subsequently graduated from Grinnell College with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Spanish. During college, I tutored students in Chemistry as well as worked at an on-campus coffee shop. I participated in a semester-long study abroad program in Ecuador, spending time in Quito and also completing a 6-week long internship with a midwife in a small indigenous village in Otavalo. After graduation, I moved to Louisville to pursue a Master's in teaching (MAT) while working as a Chemistry teacher. I have completed coursework towards an ESL endorsement through the University of Louisville as well, and am very passionate about providing individualized instruction that matches diverse student needs. I recently moved home to the Twin Cities to be near my family I find that breaking up difficult content, like Chemistry, into more achievable chunks often helps students feel more confident about their progress and allows them to visualize success. I, personally, enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, and walking my dog Lily.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

In order to become an independent learner, a student must first be given opportunities to feel successful and boost self-confidence in a specific area. Then, we can work on strategies that will help the student work independently and successfully.
