My experience with tutoring has very personally rewarding. I enjoy working with people of varied educational, cultural and economic backgrounds. I have a keen interest in nurturing a person academically using a gentle and kind approach to learning. I graduated from Occidental College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Comparative Literature, emphasizing critical theory. My tutoring spans a diverse range of experiences: I tutored math at an inner-city school in Los Angeles, English to students in Hyderabad, India, and reading to rehabilitated refugee children in Arizona. After graduating, I instructed reading programs for the Institute of Reading Development, where I saw that, as my students' reading skills improved, their overall confidence skyrocketed. They became better students because they stopped feeling incapable and inept. This experience is the foundation of my tutoring philosophy. I believe education increases one's own sense of ability and self-worth. Because of this, I aim to inspire interest and excitement in my students, not simply teach them effect ways to memorize a textbook. In this way, I agree with William B. Yeats in that "education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." I empower my students to seek answers on their own and develop their critical thinking skills. As a tutor, I structure my teaching around the student's individual interests and needs. For example, one 6th grade student loved to perform onstage, so we wrote a play to explore theme, plot, and dialogue. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing, English and American history. In my free time, I teach yoga and write creative non-fiction. I love cooking, eating, and travel.

Tutoring has been an incredibly enjoyable activity of mine over the course of the last 3-4 years. I appreciate the opportunity to positively impact a young student's academic success, while instilling successful studying habits and fostering a sense of confidence in the classroom for each student. I am in my 4th year of volunteer tutoring at a non-profit organization in Cambridge, MA where I have honed my tutoring skills across a multitude of academic disciplines.I come from a science background having graduated from Villanova University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Bioengineering. After college, I went to work for a Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company in oncology clinical research. After 1 1/2 years at the pharmaceutical company, I realized my passion for medicine and took the next step towards pursuing that dream by enrolling in a graduate program at Boston University School of Medicine. I graduated in May 2015 with a Master of Science in Medical Sciences, and I am currently in the process of applying to medical schools while working full-time in a lab in the Division of Genetics at Harvard Medical School.

I am a mechanical engineering student at the University of Texas at Dallas. I enjoy participating in research related to bioengineering. My favorite subject to tutor is math because I have always enjoyed and excelled at it. I love helping students reach their full potential!

Learning a language is more than being able to communicate, it is the opportunity to have a second, third, or fourth brain, that allows you to process information and life at a superior level. Spanish and French are the languages I learned and have spoken at home since I was little. I lived in South America and went to a French Lyceum. Spanish for me is the language of the Spirit and having fun, French is the language of love, analytics, and a free mindset. I do have a Bachelor's in Corporate Communications and a Master's in Management. I have worked in Marketing and Business Development and on the side have been in the position of teaching and tutoring young adults.

I do my best to work at the students pace in a comfortable environment while giving encouraging feedback.I think I'm pretty easy to work with and can be funny at times. (at least I think so)

I am a native French speaker, have been a tutor with kids after school to assist them with their homework, created some activities in French for schools (singing French songs, cooking lessons). I used to work also with French adults when I lived in France and in London to guide them in finding a job and an apartment too. Since graduating with my PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of California, Davis in 2009, I have spent 7 years as a community college physics professor. As a community college graduate myself, I understand the challenges facing students and I am a passionate teacher. I am currently taking a year in Cambridge to complete a Master's degree in the Harvard Graduate School of Education to further improve my skills. As a tutor, physics is my favorite topic, but I am also enthusiastic about math as well as GRE test prep. From my experience in the classroom, I have discovered that it's very important to tailor the learning experience to each student. Every student is different and will benefit from varied methods. In general it's important to minimize lecturing and to give a student the opportunity to try and succeed at problems with gentle guidance. Outside of teaching, my interests are diverse. I enjoy reading, movies, CrossFit, theater, and dancing, specifically Salsa and Swing.
