I am a graduate of The New School. I have a B.A. in Culture and Media with a focus in film studies. Currently, I tutor math and writing. I recognize these two subjects are on the opposite ends of the academic spectrum.
After graduating, I spent a year working at the Harlem Children's Zone as a math tutor where I worked with students from kindergarten to eighth grade. Since I think everyone learns and understand materials differently I like to show student's multiple solutions to the same problem and then focus on whatever technique works best. I have had many students stuck on something and all it takes to get them going again is is a slight shift in their thinking. I was also the special activity director at a summer camp for a five summers so I have experience with making everything fun.
In my spare time, I write, produce, and perform in live shows. Given my experience working with writers, I can also help with English and creative writing. When working with students on their writing I like to focus on story structure, characterization, and honing in on the central theme of their piece while also making sure their idea is fully explored.
When I am not tutoring or working on a live show you can find me exploring the great outdoors, or absorbing and analyzing an absurd amount of popular culture. I recognize these two interests are on the opposite ends of the hobby spectrum.
