Tutoring review by Michelle in Waynesboro, VA
Today, we did the short answer (part 2) math booklet and the ELA first booklet. The student makes a couple of simple mistakes in math and there are still topics that she hasn't learned yet (percents, angles). All in all, I think by the time her ELA and math citywide tests come around, she should be well prepared.

Tutoring review by Alex in Waynesboro, VA
The student is doing well. We did a homework review session covering geometry, percentages, inequalities, box plots, unit rates, algebra, unit conversions, absolute values, nets, and graphing. The vast majority of her mistakes are computational. There were a few things that we needed to go over, such as the definition of a term in functions, the formulas for geometry, and some of the statistics terms such as mean and median.

Tutoring review by Hadiya in Waynesboro, VA
We began by reviewing the student's homework. Then we practiced multiplying fractions before focusing on decimals the remainder of the session. He is great at adding and subtracting fractions, but we will continue to work on decimal placement. Also, we worked on word problems involving decimals.

Tutoring review by Luke in Waynesboro, VA
As you know, today we reviewed the student's last chapter, with an emphasis on arithmetic and geometric series and their sums. We also reviewed and discussed exponential and logarithmic functions. She didn't have too much trouble with the exponential and logarithmic functions, but she was a little uncertain regarding arithmetic and geometric series and their formulae. We reviewed several arithmetic and geometric series, and I demonstrated the convergence of the infinite summation of the kth power of one half, beginning at k=0. We also reviewed interest growth, wherein perannual interest is calculated by raising one tenth of the annual interest to the power of n times the number of years. We also covered continually compounding interest, estimated by Pe^[rt] (a.k.a. "Pert"). We also covered the syntax of the summation formula and went over a couple special cases to illustrate the growth of the summation formula and the proper way to read a very strangely phrased question. The student was a little uncertain about her summations, though she was able to do them. I recommended that she take a good break and be sure to review it again later tonight; I also stressed that she should call me if she discovers that she's forgotten how to do anything she's reviewing.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Waynesboro, VA
The student and I discussed her goals for tutoring and she mentioned Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, and basic Internet functions. We discussed how to attach files to emails, how to create Gmail drafts, how to rename Word files, and how to make a few basic Word edits. I helped her practice each of these skills and she agreed to practice these skills before our next session so that they can become more automatic.

Tutoring review by Siddharth in Waynesboro, VA
We covered most of the same concepts from last time, just further in depth, and I also let her have more independence when answering the questions. I think she understands the visual aspects of things better than the mathematical way, so I will be sure to focus on that method in the future. She even said that now that she's starting to understand the material, she enjoys it!
