Tutoring review by Daniel in Rio Grande, UT
In this session we reviewed for an upcoming unit test. We practice multiple ways of solving multiplication problems. The student was able to solve using standard algorithm, expanded algorithm, breaking the equation into multiple parts, and using arrays. We also worked through word problems and eliminating meaningless information and determining when not enough information is given. She did well on the example problems, but I would recommend more practice since problems of this nature could be limitless. More practice will allow her to better deal with the trickier problems.

The student and I covered several division techniques; this included the rectangle and partial quotient methods. He seems to have a good understanding of these methods. I included some notes that I instructed the student to look over for his next homework. Overall it was a very productive session.

Tonight we reviewed material covering probability and statistics for the student's upcoming test. I suggested she continue looking over her notes to be clear on whether to use nCk or nPk for a problem. We will pick up with Bayes' theorem for our next session.

Tutoring review by Keith in Rio Grande, UT
This session we were working on math. First we reviewed a practice test that the student had completed, discussing the problems she had gotten wrong, which were far fewer than in previous attempts. The conversion metric showed her scoring 690 on both math and verbal sections and about a 700-750 on the writing section. After that, she worked through some math sections specifically. She struggled with several of the problems, even ultimately running out of time on one of the sections. We discussed test taking strategies to avoid that happening in the future and reviewed the problematic problems. In the end, we were able to identify triangle-based geometry and proportions as an area struggle for her. I pointed her to the website's bank of practice tests, which has tests specifically geared towards many concepts. Among the 550 related to SAT math tests, there are sure to be some on those topics. She will hopefully take a look at some of them before the next session so that she can review the areas she is struggling with.

Tutoring review by Hamid in Rio Grande, UT
The student needed to prepare for a quiz on her current section about radicals and exponents. The section mainly focused on simplifying expressions. We focused on discussing the most efficient way to remove radicals from the denominator. She was shown just multiplying the radical by itself would work but could make simplifying the numerator laborious. Figuring out to find the lowest perfect radical could make this process more efficient. We also worked on solving equations with radicals.
