After graduating from high school I joined the United States Marine Corps. I spent 4.8 years in the corps, and was stationed overseas the entire time (Okinawa, Hungary, Kosovo). I have traveled to over 15 countries, and have developed a fascination for learning about different ethnic cultures. I enjoyed my time in the corps, and do my best to always try to incorporate my stories into my lesson plans. I am currently pursuing my TESOL certificate (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).For over 10 years I have tutored fellow students, coworkers, high school students, college students, ESL learners, and adults. My background is in astrophysics with a focus on the observational study of young stars and their properties. I am interested in how the properties of the youngest stars change as they grow and how these properties affect dusty planet forming material associated with the stars. As I learned how to conduct this research I earned a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy, and later, a Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy. Along the way I have had the opportunity to lead problem sessions and laboratories for college physics and astronomy classes. I have also tutored a number of high school and college students in physics and related classes. I am excited to be here on Varsity Tutors tutoring Physics and Astronomy.

I am a bioengineering masters student at Illinois Institute of Technology with a 3.83 GPA. In the future I plan on applying to a neuroengineering PhD program and eventually work on understanding the cause and providing new treatments for mental disorders. My greatest skills are in probability and statistics, chemistry, and physiology.

I am graduate of Yale University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During my college years, I spent most of my time in the lab, researching in a behavioral neurosciences lab, and on the rugby pitch for the Yale Rugby Club. I then moved to St. Louis to attend medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. Though I initially entered medical school with the hopes to become a neurologist, I fell in love with orthopedic surgery and am currently heavily involved in research with the orthopedic hand department.Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I started private tutoring during my high school years and continued to tutor throughout college. My favorite subjects are Math and Science and I have much experience tutoring Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. During medical school, I had the great opportunity to lead the Physics portion of Washington University's MCAT class as well as be a teaching assistant for the medical school Gross Anatomy course. I've been on the "treadmill" and I know how brutal the educational arena can be. Thus, I find great satisfaction in being able to help people who were in similar situations as myself. I have extensive experience in tutoring from two previous positions in which I taught in both a classroom setting and a one-on-one setting. Regarding the subjects I have taught- I am familiar with math all the way up to Algebra 2 (including SAT Math), I have helped many students prepare for the SAT and ACT, I am very familiar with the LSAT, and I can assist students with Literature and Writing as well. In my experience with tutoring, I have found that students can often learn best when the instruction is tailored to their needs. Each student has unique strengths and weaknesses, and I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to play on those strengths and weaknesses in order to bring out the best performance from the student.
