Tutoring review by Sarah Brooke in East Glenville, NY
Today the student and I went over his essay. He had a lot of great ideas and is a strong writer. He needs work on his introduction and conclusion. I prompted him to introduce the topic more and hint at the things he'd be saying later in the essay. He also needs to look out for run-on sentences. I told him to make sure to proofread after he's done and change run-ons to two sentences. Next, we went over his reading section. He needs to focus more on sticking to the passage. He also needs to check back and make sure his answer is included in the text. Lastly, we started to go over a quantitative section. He did a great job learning new concepts. He also got a bunch of problems right on his own. I asked him to finish the rest of the section for homework, as well as do another essay. I also suggested his mother buy him a comprehensive prep book so he can get the reading and math section broken down for him.

Tutoring review by Natalya in East Glenville, NY
The student will have a quiz tomorrow. During this session, he worked on the problems from a review packet. The problems were on solving exponential equations, graphing exponential functions, and stating the characteristics of the graphs (domain, range, asymptote, x-and y-intercepts, positive and negative intervals, transformations, and end behavior). He did very well on graphing the exponential functions and writing the characteristics of the functions. He showed me the last graded test and we checked the problems that he missed on the test. His grade has improved, and I hope that he will do well on the quiz tomorrow.

Tutoring review by Sandra in East Glenville, NY
In our last session, the student and I reviewed the introductions, outlines, and essay I had given her. We went over how to write an effective thesis statement and organizational strategies. We continued to practice outlining and writing thesis statements for past SAT essay prompts. She is definitely making progress and is writing very strong introductions. Then, we looked over the grading rubric and started looking at some example essays to correct and grade ourselves. For next time, I left her with two practice essays to complete, and I will bring additional prompts and example essays to work through together.
