Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Gary in Boca Raton, FL
We spent much of the session reviewing a proposal for a science fair project that the student is planning on doing. The project involves building an electrical generator. His description of procedures was very good, but in my view his hypothesis wasn't really a hypothesis. We spent some time discussing the nature of hypotheses, and how his project should to prove or disprove his hypothesis. I gave him an example of a hypothesis that can be proven with his project. We will see how his teacher evaluates his proposal. We finished the session reviewing a Social Studies chapter on social change of the mid 19th century, as he is having a chapter test next week.

During today's session, the student completed his math homework (two worksheets). The first worksheet (Daily Rigor), consisted of questions regarding perimeter, decomposing fractions, multiplication, interpreting stem and leaf plots, and dot plot. The second worksheet dealt with personal finance (profit). He had some difficulty with the concept initially but caught on quickly and successfully completed the assignment. He had a positive attitude regarding the material.

We went over federalism, including dual federalism, layer cake federalism, marble federalism, competitive federalism, creative federalism, and devolution. The student struggled a bit with the concepts and applications but I think overall he ended with a much better understanding than what he started with. The study plan I created for him is to read the relevant section of the AP review book the night before he goes over it in his class. He should make flashcards of the vocab words in the section and review the multiple choice questions at the end of the section.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Yazdaan in Boca Raton, FL
It was a pleasure to tutor the student during our last session. We worked on finishing his assigned world history chapter on European and American expansions into Asia and Latin America and the significance of the industrial revolution in Japan along with the Meiji restoration and British rule over India. We then focused on the Pacific islands and the wars and colonies taken over by the different European countries and the significance of making those particular colonies as colonies for military and resource reasons. Finally to end our session we discussed the expansion into Latin America with the Mexican revolution, Cuban Independence as well as the engineering accomplishment of the Panama Canal and its large significance to the world.
