I am an expecting graduate of Ohio University in May 2017. I will receive my Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology with minors in biology and nutrition, as well as a certificate in diabetes. After graduation I plan to attend Physician Assistant School to eventually practice medicine in the field of emergency medicine or pediatrics. Throughout my academic career I have tutored a broad range of subjects including nutrition, organic chemistry, human anatomy and physiology. I am most passionate about human anatomy as I have been a teaching assistant at my university for three semesters, and will continue to do so for another two semesters. I often engage students that are stuck or unmotivated by including fun learning tools such as Jeopardy, animations, and memorable mnemonics. In my experience, remarkable improvement has been observed when students first understand fundamental concepts and then build their understanding to tie together what they are learning with the importance it has in today's society and their future careers. My goal is to perpetuate the importance of education to broaden the horizons of my students in hopes for a brighter future. Outside of academics I enjoy hiking, kayaking, playing the ukulele, and watching engaging shows on Netflix.

I am a graduate of the University of Massachusetts located in Amherst, Mass. I received my Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from the Isenberg School of Management on the UMass campus after completing my prerequisite requirements for medical school. I returned to school at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences where I obtained my Medical Doctorate. Currently, I'm two semesters away from completing my Masters in Public Health. While in medical school, I was a teaching assistant and tutor for gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, and neuroscience. I tutor anatomy, physiology, and essay writing and editing at the college level and biology, life sciences at a high school level. My favorite subjects to teach are anatomy and physiology because the combination provides a complete understanding of the role that anatomical structure plays in the function of cells, organs, organ systems, and the human body. My teaching philosophy is to break down material and rebuild it in a way that fits each student's learning style and utilize questions, examples, and repetition to build confidence and retention. When I'm not spending time tutoring, I enjoy exploring the outdoors, visiting new restaurants, and seeing new sights around Atlanta. I am applying for residency in obstetrics and gynecology and internal medicine and hope to start my training in July of 2015!

I graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine's school of Public Health Sciences in 2013. In addition to this, I was very involved around my college campus. I played five intramural sports, ran my own program in student government, which brought student teaching to UC Irvine, and served as president of my fraternity where I managed more than 60 members.I am a patient, kind-hearted, and intelligent person who truly values the importance of education in a young individual's life. I am currently applying to medical school and understand the plight of the modern student. I enjoy teaching and it gives me a lot of satisfaction to watch others learn and grow through their academics. I enjoy working with students of all ages from elementary to high school and even in some special cases, college sciences.During college, I tutored more than a dozen courses from start to finish. By using analogies, drawing diagrams, and asking the student questions, I was able to break through to students who were previously panicked about the possibility of failure. I believe in an "active" approach to tutoring which includes asking the student questions to not only get closer to a complicated answer, but to build the student's confidence. In addition, I always try to identify exactly where in the thinking process a student is struggling. After tackling this issue, I have been able to explain concepts and new ideas much more clearly and effectively.

I am a Nursing Assistant, pre-med, who majored in biochemistry because the molecular worldfascinates me. My interest in biochemistry caused me to investigate and develop a passion forstudying the human body. I have a passion for helping people and I care about people young and old. This is the basis of my desire to attend medical school.Taking a human physiology class in the spring semester of my junior year of college was the initialcatalyst that led to my decision to become a doctor. I had been following my interests up to that point, and my interest in studying the human body started me on the path that I am on today. While I did notbegin my journey with an ambition to become a doctor, experiences throughout my life have preparedme to make the decision to become a doctor. I remember discovering in kindergarten that I was ahighly empathetic person. The first job that I dreamed of was becoming a veterinarian because of mylove for animals. Being the first member of my family to work in healthcare makes me proud of thejourney that led me to decide to become a doctor. I made this decision just weeks before my senioryear in college began. In May 2014, I graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Nebraska at Lincolnknowing that my next step was to discover what it meant to be a doctor. The more involved that I havebecome in the medical field, the stronger my desire to be a doctor becomes. As a Nursing Assistant in a Mohs surgery and dermatology practice, I bring patients into a room togather information to present to the doctor. I have found it difficult, yet necessary to defer offeringadvice when a patient asks me a question. I want strongly to have the education and ability to offermedical advice on my own, but to do this I will need a formal medical education. I enjoy sharing what Ihave learned with people who are looking to improve their lives, and I want to have the ability to dothis. My job as a Nursing Assistant makes me optimistic about my future because I love my work, and Ilook forward to a future where I am more capable to help people in need of medical attention.Working in a Mohs surgery and dermatology practice has been the greatest confirmation that I want totrain to become a practicing physician. I enjoy aspects of every activity that I am allowed to do as aNursing Assistant, and this makes me excited to learn more ways to help people. Observing surgerieshas taught me what a special thing it is to have the ability to help people with my hands as well as mymind. Dermatology has given me insight into the gambit of medical fields and specialties, and I lookforward to clinical rotations so that I can experience each specialty. The conversations that I have had with patients, the words of encouragement they have provided, andthe confidence that patients have in me is a great inspiration to become a doctor. I can not count all ofthe patients who have said that I will be a great doctor; some patients tell me this every time they seeme. I remember a discussion with a patient who was a retired dentist. He had decided to pursue dentalschool instead of medical school because he was interested in working at dentistry as a career ratherthan practicing medicine as a lifestyle. This was an enlightening conversation because I realized thatthe same statement confirmed my decision to become a doctor. I don't stop thinking about patientsafter I leave the office. I enjoy researching unique cases when I am at home, and I enjoy engaging inmedical conversations with neighbors or friends.I enjoy research. I have been involved in three different types of research, and I enjoy working withpeople the most. As a doctor I would be interested in pursuing clinical trials as a way to further medicalresearch while remaining involved in patient care. I work with an expert on schizophrenia to map theepigenetics involved in schizophrenia onset. The application of Dr. William Walsh's research, usingnutrients like zinc, SAMe, or vitamins to improve mental illnesses is inspiring. I enjoy being able toimprove the lives of people, and I like medical research because it enables me to help more people.I like what my life has become since graduating from college. I feel like I exist to serve people, and thisis a good purpose for life. I hope to attain a medical education so that I can be qualified to providemedical care on my own.

m Mikie (My Key). I have been tutoring biology since 2015. I earned my Biology MA from Hunter College in 2023. Before this, I graduated with a Biology BA from UC Berkeley and have took continuing education courses in human anatomy and human physiology as well as medical level courses in biochemistry, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. I currently teach A&P lab and recitation at a university. I have been working for Varsity Tutors since 2015. In 2020, I had the pleasure to teach over 100 high school biology students at a school in New York City as a high long-term substitute biology teacher. I have dedicated much of my life to helping others, having been a part of hospitals, a non-profit organization for bird of prey rehabilitation, and a college learning resource center. The areas I tutor are biology, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology. These include honors biology, AP Biology, and IB Biology HL. I will sometimes accept tutoring requests of other biology subjects if I have taken them myself. Of all of these subjects, I most enjoy tutoring physiology because I find how the body functions extremely interesting and there are numerous medical applications to the field. I can tutor Survey of Natural Science Biology from the OAT and biology from the MCAT. I do not tutor NBEO. I cater mainly to visual-auditory learners because I tend to organize information into simple charts and diagrams sometimes, I even draw out processes. If you stick around the extra half hour, I may have time to test you with and go over practice problems. I firmly believe patience, practice, and persistence contribute to a more effective style of learning. My goal is teach college-level biological science courses as a long-term career.

I have been tutoring students since high school. It is an aspect of my life that I find very rewarding. To be able to take someone with an attitude of the topic being too hard to being confident enough to approach any challenge. I love showing how a deeper understanding can translate to being able to adapt to any situation you encounter on the test. This approach served me well as both an undergraduate and graduate teaching assistant. This is more than a career for me, it is a life style of constantly learning and sharing knowledge.

I am a PhD student in Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago working on gene regulation. I believe teaching is an art of simplifying the obvious and I have learnt a great deal about the same by interacting with teachers and students both at the high school level with Chicago public schools and undergraduates at UIC, as I have worked in different capacities as a tutor, TA and an instructor. Every student has a personality and my teaching experience has given me the confidence of managing different personalities, a challenge that I relish and use it to fuel my future learning and that of my students. Apart from research, I enjoy improvising, acting, dancing and volunteering.
