Most recently, I worked as a Learning Facilitator at Darunsikkahalai Innovative School of Learning in Bangkok, Thailand, where I taught 9th and 10th grade students English and Social Studies using the Constructionism theory. In October 2017, I departed for Ziguinchor, Senegal to be an U.S. Fulbright English Teaching Assistant for nine months. I assisted teachers in a secondary school to improve foreign students' English language abilities.I began my teaching career in 2011 as a chess teacher in Alabama. Since then, I completed English teacher training in Sierra Leone as a Peace Corps Volunteer, worked as a classroom aide in a special needs school, taught English and chess at a Moroccan youth center (using French), and volunteered as a chess coach.From my experiences, I understand the importance of being prepared but flexible when explaining concepts. I love to engage students by doing hands-on and engaging activities. I believe that encouragement and patience are essential for the student's success, something I strive for. My classroom techniques, which incorporate these skills, were effective enough that I received special recognition after six months of working at St. Coletta, a special needs school. The success of the activity depended on a great deal of preparation, innovation, engagement, enthusiasm, and encouragement. These skills are easily transferable to tutoring sessions to enrich the student's learning experience. I enjoy contributing to a student's learning and growth, and hope to do so as a Varsity tutor.

I am a biomedical engineer working in orthopedic research. My degree is from Arizona State University in Biomedical Engineering. I have experience helping people learn in many different stages of life, from age 3 to adults, including preschool, elementary, middle school, as well as high school students. I love math and science and I love sharing that love with other people. Technology is also a passion of mine and I have experience helping people get up to speed with helpful skills for the professional environment.As a tutor, I believe that everyone benefits from encouragement - so many times the barrier to learning is confidence! I received my Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University in Middle-Level Education and Elementary Education, with minors in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and Math and Science Concepts. I am designated as "highly qualified" by the state of Illinois to teach mathematics, science, social sciences, and language arts. I believe that math is the "language of the universe", and it is imperative that all students can communicate mathematically. I have also tutored in some capacity for the last 15 years and have significant experience working with gifted students, English Learners, and remote instruction.

As a student, I am highly interested in the sciences which has led me to be in this position as a pharmacy student. I love to learn about biochemical processes of our body and how medications can alter that. Once that knowledge has been obtained, it is amazing to learn about how it can be applied therapeutically. My background consists of a public health degree while which helps me understand the broad perspective of health and then learning about pharmacy helps me zoom in and be able to clinically help patients. Professionally, I aspire to be in a workplace where I could continue being innovative and where I can utilize my compassion for individuals. I want a degree of freedom along with my job where I could learn new things and at the same time follow protocol.

I am a graduate of Yale University. I received my Bachelor of Engineering Science in Chemical Engineering. Since graduation, I earned a certification to teach English as a Second Language, and traveled to Beijing, China, where I taught at both primary and high school levels (including several math and Physics high school courses). While I tutor a variety of subjects, I have always had a particular passion for math and Chemistry. In high school, I led the Ohio ARML Math team, and earned a gold medal in the State Science Olympiad tournament for the Chemistry Lab event. I bring the experience I gained competing in and writing for a variety of academic competitions to my students when I teach or tutor them, and I love the excitement of pushing students to reach and expand their potential, as well as the fun that comes from a student seeing a question a new way and understanding it on a different level. I know that education and brain-training are necessary for not just success, but fulfillment, in life. In my spare time, I enjoy crossword puzzles, running, bouldering, trivia, and watching a variety of sports (both American and international).

I was in sports talk radio for eight years. I believe being successful comes down to knowing what you want and then knowing how to get it. That's why I believe a tutor/teacher/coach can be so important. They have been there themselves and want to pass on their knowledge and experience.If you can become clear on those two things, the learning and growth will come. It will come even faster with personalizing your working and applying it to your life.I was doubted in middle school and high school in even getting into college. I ended up doing fairly well on tests and got into a good college. I know what it's like being on both ends.Learning is about being open minded and realizing how much you don't know. With that attitude, work ethic and technique students can truly do better than they ever thought possible.

Education is one of the most important things out there, and not everyone has an easy time learning. It's okay to struggle sometimes because not everyone is perfect, but always make sure you get the right help when needed. I'm always there for others and help wherever I can. My goal as a tutor is to help students succeed! As a student who has grown up with ADHD I have definitely learned the best ways to study and progress, and I can absolutely spread my tips and advice to anyone who needs it.

After graduation I worked for 5 years teaching middle and high school mathematics in both Virginia and Ohio. My favorite subject to tutor are Algebra I and Algebra II. I feel like both classes make up the foundation of mathematics and over the years I have developed a variety of different teaching methods to help students who struggling with the different topics. I would describe myself as problem solver, I like to figure out not only how student is struggling but more importantly why are they struggling? Where do the keep making their mistakes and why. Outside of tutoring I have been a stay-at-home father for the past 7 years raising my two wonderful daughters. I enjoy sports, working out, and getting outside as much as possible.
