If you are looking to enroll your student in a Louisville ISEE prep course or find a private ISEE instructor, Varsity Tutors is here to help you get started with either option. The ISEE, or Independent School Entrance Exam, is accepted by over 1200 independent schools and is used for admission purposes. The exam measures different skills thought to be important for student success in an independent school and provides a fair way for prospective schools to compare the reasoning and achievement skills of different applicants. A good ISEE score, in addition to good grades, teacher recommendations, and interviews, can set your child apart from the crowd. Quality ISEE preparation can help your student to put his or her best foot forward when applying to the independent school of his or her choice.
What topics or skills can be covered in Louisville ISEE prep to assist my child in preparing for the ISEE?
The ISEE is offered at several different Levels: Primary 2, Primary 3, Primary 4, Lower, Middle, and Upper. Each Level assesses your child on age-appropriate skills. Let's take a closer look at the skills and topics covered in each Level.
Primary Level ISEEs are taken by students entering second, third, or fourth grade. At this Level, students are assessed on Reading, Math, and Writing. Primary 2 Level students also take an Auditory comprehension section, which evaluates your child's ability to listen to a passage and answer questions about it. Reading Comprehension measures your child ability to understand a passage and grade-appropriate vocabulary. The Math section contains multiple-choice questions assessing a student's mastery of age-appropriate math operations. The Writing section gives your child an opportunity to look at a picture prompt and write a story about it.
The Lower, Middle, and Upper Level ISEEs contain the same sections with the same time limits. Sections do vary in content and assess your student only of grade-level appropriation content. The sections in these levels consist of Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Math Achievement, in addition to the unscored Writing sample. Verbal Reasoning measures your student's basic English skills, such as synonyms, parts of speech, or using context clues to complete a sentence. The Quantitative Reasoning section assesses a student's ability to use mathematics to solve problems, rather than specific mathematical concepts. The Math Achievement section does assess your student's mastery of grade-level appropriate mathematical operations, such as finding the area and perimeter of geometric shapes, prime factorization, or symmetry concepts. The Writing sample is unscored but is your student's opportunity to write about a given age-appropriate area of interest. This is your student's opportunity to give the school a glimpse into his or her creativity and personality.
No matter which level your student is preparing to take, Louisville ISEE prep can help your student to gain confidence in his or her ability to do well on the exam.
What are the benefits of different types of Louisville ISEE prep?
We are happy to offer both online interactive courses and a connection to highly-qualified private instructors. Either option can be an exceptional resource for students wanting to feel confident on test day, but each comes with a different set of benefits and may work better for some students rather than others. Let's take a closer look at the advantages of each option.
When you enroll your student in a Louisville ISEE prep class, he or she will be able to access classes directly from a computer. Our online learning environment makes it simple and convenient for your student to attend classes with no commute necessary. Enrollees can speak to, see, and hear their instructor as if they are all in the same classroom. Students will also be able to participate in different types of collaborative activities with their classmates. For example, a student can work on practicing their writing skills and engage in peer editing groups. Students could also engage in a discussion about how to use formulas to calculate measurements or how to properly compare and contrast information from a given passage. these types of activities can help a student to retain material and skills for a longer amount of time. This is an excellent option for students who enjoy the socialization and structure of a traditional classroom while also providing the opportunity to access the class from any computer connected to high-speed internet.
Parents will have the opportunity to choose between signing their student up for a 2-week course or a 4-week course. New class sessions start weekly, so your student can begin a class session at any time convenient for your schedule.
Students who prefer to work more independently may wish to sign up to work with a private Louisville ISEE tutor. This provides students with the opportunity to work with a dedicated private instructor who can take the time to get to know them personally. With information such as your strengths, weakness, desired areas of improvement, and preferred learning style in mind, lessons can be created to cater to your exact needs. This makes study sessions more efficient since you won't need to spend time reviewing subjects or skills you've already mastered. These private lessons can be attended using our unique Live Learning Platform. Doing so allows your student to receive private instruction at his or her favorite study spot, whether that is the public library, a local coffee shop, or the comfort of your own home.
Some parents may wish to sign their students up for both options, which can provide your student with the best of both worlds. No matter which option you choose, you can be sure your student is receiving instruction from the highly-knowledgeable teachers with good communication skills due to our rigorous vetting system.
