"The Pen is mightier than the Sword." I believe this well-known proverb is true. Good writing can persuade, motivate, inspire, and please thousands. Writing is a large part of many important careers, and the ability to write well opens doors to jobs, promotions, and countless other possibilities.

Similarly, the ability to read challenging texts with comprehension and discernment is also a large part of many important careers, and reading good writing is not only a desirable skill, but one that brings pleasure. In nearly 30 years of teaching English, I most enjoyed improving my students' reading and writing abilities, knowing how well those abilities would serve them in their future careers. As a tutor, I enjoy the opportunity to work with individual students and strengthen their reading and writing abilities.
