How can a tutor help your child master the ISEE?

When you want your child to get ahead in life and career goals, you begin by looking at the best schools in your area. In many cases, these institutions are independent or magnet schools, which specialize in rigorous academics and offer a specific focus on subjects like engineering, mathematics, or the arts. These institutions engage your child so they become lifelong learners. But first, your child must pass the Independent School Entrance Exam, or ISEE. The test scores they achieve on this lengthy examination can determine their academic future, so it is important for them to receive the dedicated attention they deserve. The tutors that Varsity Tutors could help you find in Naperville, IL, are experienced professionals, skilled in working to help students try to understand the intricacies of the ISEE. When you contact our educational directors, we will work hard to pair your child with an excellent tutor to suit their current skills and future needs. An expert ISEE tutor in Naperville will focus on your child's specific needs to create study sessions that could be effective to meet their, and your, goals. Whether your child is taking the elementary, middle, or high school levels of the ISEE, each test has a similar format that can appear challenging without proper study. There are five sections, which should take three hours total to complete. These sections test your child's ability to reason verbally and mathematically, measure their grade-based skills in mathematics and reading comprehension, and test their ability to write. Even if your child works hard to study on their own for this test, the format and time limit can seem intimidating. However, a tutor can likely help with personal attention and test-taking strategies.

Studying for a standardized exam like the ISEE is not just about understanding the subject matter, but about knowing a great way to approach a multiple-choice test. Your tutor should not only work one-on-one with your child, but help them develop great approaches to taking tests, so they will continue to excel, not only on the ISEE, but other standardized tests. Our directors will match your child with a personal and professional ISEE tutor in Naperville who might help them to meet their academic and test score goals. Best of all, tutoring sessions can be scheduled either in person or online to suit your child's comfort and your schedule.

Session Summaries by ISEE Tutors

ISEE Tutoring review by BaoTran in Naperville, IL
The student and I went over how to solve algebra problems, focusing on substitution, factoring, and isolating the variable using the prep book. The student and I then worked on vocabulary, specifically on strategies for determining the meaning/charge of words before replacing them with the answer choices. The student and I will meet next Saturday, and in the meantime, she will complete the practice test (sections 1 and 2), she will do practice problems from the algebra section of the book, and will also work on vocabulary.

ISEE Tutoring review by Srikala in Naperville, IL
Today was my first meeting with this student, so much of the session was spent getting to know his comfort levels in math and reading. We spent a part of the session also going over the placement exam format. I left him with math and essay-writing homework; from what I understand, he likes doing math more than the languages, but he is good at both. The challenge lies in the fact that he will need to learn a lot of new concepts in math way before he will be required to in school, and practice writing.

Also, discussed the Pythagorean Theorem and formulas for areas of solid figures. Left them with a couple of pages of homework.

ISEE Tutoring review by Kelsey in Naperville, IL
The student and I had another awesome session. He is such a sweet kid! We started with a review of the verbal section, and he remembered pretty much everything we talked about last time. We then moved on to the reading section, building on the skills we talked about last week and incorporating them into passage-based questions. He is a little anxious about his reading speed, but he actually did a great job with the strategies we worked on. We finished up with a math review, focusing on arithmetic. Looking forward to seeing him again next week!

ISEE Tutoring review by Joanne in Naperville, IL
We covered the structure of a 5 paragraph essay, and how each body paragraph should support the thesis. - We worked on many practice problems from the ISEE vocab section. For every word that the student was not familiar with, we defined them.
