What does an Indianapolis USMLE class cover?
The United States Medical Licensing Exam, or the USMLE, is a test taken by individuals looking to become medically licensed professionals in the United States. Odds are, if you are a student at Indiana University School of Medicine, you are either preparing to take the USMLE, or you are between the Steps of this exam. For assistance working through your study materials, think about signing up for a class.
The USMLE is a three step examination process. Step 1 of the exam usually is taken during a medical student's second year in school. This Step includes a 280 question multiple choice exam, which is divided into seven 60 minute blocks. This is a one day test session.
Step 2 of the USMLE is broken up into two parts: Clinical Knowledge and Clinical Skills. The Clinical Knowledge portion asks 316 multiple choice questions to students, divided into eight 60 minute blocks. The Clinical Skills section provides test-takers with 12 patient cases to encounter and record. This step of the USMLE is administered at only six test centers in the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and two centers in Philadelphia. It is composed of three subcomponents, communication and interpersonal skills, integrated clinical encounter, and spoken English proficiency. Most students who take Step 2 of the USMLE will do so during their fourth year of medical school.
Step 3 of the USMLE is a two day test taking experience. On the first day, students are provided with 233 multiple choice test questions divided into six 60 minute blocks, with each block containing about 40 questions. On the second day of Step 3, students must answer approximately 180 multiple choice test questions, divided into six 45 minute blocks, with each block containing around 30 questions. There are 13 computer based case simulations for students to work on, which take 10 or 20 minutes of real time. For help with any of these areas of the USMLE, you can get in touch with Varsity Tutors to enroll in an Indianapolis USMLE class.
