What could an Indianapolis GRE course assist me in reviewing?
Taken in over 160 countries worldwide in consideration for thousands of colleges and universities, the GRE is typically a computer-based test. The test can take up to three hours and 45 minutes to finish, and it features three key sections. These sections include Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Let's have a more detailed look at each individual section.
The Analytical Writing section is composed of two tasks, one in which you must analyze an issue and another in which you must analyze an argument. Each task has a time limit of exactly 30 minutes. The Analytical Writing section will be scored on a range of 0-6. Test strategies such as assessing both the task and directions, planning your response to the question, writing your response to the question, and checking your response over for any errors if time allows you to will be useful. There are a variety of skills being assessed in this section of the GRE, like articulating complex concepts clearly and effectively, supporting ideas with both examples and reasoning, examining claims using the evidence provided, maintaining a focused and clear discussion, and your command of written English.
The Verbal Reasoning section follows. This section is comprised of two separate sections of 20 questions, and you are allowed 60 minutes total to complete both. Scored on a range from 130-170, the Verbal Reasoning section is set up to assess a multitude of skills, which include understanding the meaning of individual words and sentences, summarizing a passage, analyzing a text and reaching conclusions about it, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of a position, and more. You will likely encounter three different types of questions in this section as well. The first question type is reading comprehension, in which you will read a passage and showcase your understanding and evaluation skills by answering questions. The next question type is text completion, in which you will choose the best answer for blank sections of short passages. The last type of question you will encounter is sentence equivalence, in which you will have to choose two answers from six choices to best complete a single sentence.
Up next we have the Quantitative Reasoning section. Also comprised of two separate sections of 20 questions, you will be allowed one hour and 10 minutes to complete this section. Scored on a range from 130-170, the Quantitative Reasoning section is intended to assess basic math skills, your understanding of mathematical concepts, and your ability to use logical reasoning as well as problem-solving skills in order to solve problems using quantitative methods. Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis will all be involved in this section. There are three separate question types in this section as well. These question types include quantitative comparison, multiple-choice, and numeric entry.
The GRE may also contain a Research Section or an Experimental section. Both sections are not scored, and they are used simply to test out questions for potential use in the future. The Research section will appear at the end of the GRE and might take the place of the embedded Experimental section. The Research section will be identified and is optional to take. The Experimental section, if present, is embedded inside either the Verbal or Quantitative Reasoning sections. This section will not be identified.
