...more critically, read more closely, and write more crisply and powerfully. My legal education and experience have further enhanced these skills. Most importantly, I love learning and have come realize that it is my vocation to share and impart that love of learning in others. As beautifully put by Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca in his moral epistles: "[P]art of the joy in learning is that it puts me in a position to teach; nothing, however...

My ultimate goal as a tutor is not to teach someone how to solve a problem or pass a test, but to teach the essential knowledge needed to succeed in a course beyond the raw grade. I believe that through a holistic assessment of a subject, it will be easier for someone to learn how to accomplish tasks related to that subject in the future. I hope to get students to a point where they...

...involved literally hundreds of my fellow college students. I was good at this, and became a prominent voice online instructing other colleges in running the event. This skill translated well into the classroom, I found, as I student-taught during the MAE. Teachers need to keep cool under pressure, need to manage a large class of students, and need to hold their interests through a lesson. They need good planning and organizational skills. They need to...

Borders are more than the material boundaries of nations, and many of the topics covered in IB Geography HL courses reflect this fact. You are expected to focus not only on the standard geopolitical topics that are generally associated with studies in geography, but also on issues of migration, environmental changes, health, and the many contested topics like borders and sovereignty in the open seas. With such a wide range of topics to review before your exams, it is easy to become overwhelmed by all of the information you're expected to know. A personal tutor can provide you with guidance by helping you to focus on integrating all of your course's details into a big picture of the complex political realities that define much of the geography of the contemporary world. In addition, the tutor Varsity Tutors connects you with can craft a customized learning plan for your tutoring sessions that focuses just on the aspects of your course material that you struggle with. Private tutors know that all students learn differently, and they are experts in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of those they teach in order to personalize the material to each individual. Tutors are also able to establish a comfort level with their students that involves an open line of communication, allowing you to feel confident in your abilities, but also willing to express concern over subject areas that you might need more assistance with.
Students in these types of advanced classes often master all the material at hand, but aren't sure what to expect when test day rolls around and are not properly prepared for the exam. Private tutors have personal experience with IB exams and will share with you the tips and tricks they have learned along the way. A good exam grade is often just as much about understanding the style of the questions and what answer they are looking for as it is about knowing the information being covered.
Whether you are looking to work in politics, education, or the business world, your post-secondary studies and your future employment will likely require you to have a deep awareness of the political and social realities that make the contemporary globe what it is. Your IB Geography class can provide you with excellent foundational knowledge on this topic, allowing your success today to have many positive ramifications in your future endeavors. Get the assistance that you need to perform superlatively, both in your coursework and on the IB examination papers, by working with an expert instructor. Recent IB Geography HL Tutoring Session Notes
This evening, the student and I worked on her social studies homework on "The Growth of Western Democracies". She is getting ready for a test this week, so we went over the critical thinking questions, at the end of each section of her textbook. We also reviewed her vocabulary, and the key ideas/concepts of the chapter. She plans to review the information with her instructor, to make sure she is on the right track for the test.
We also discussed "To Kill a Mockingbird" and her upcoming project on the book. She has a lot of good ideas for the project (a newspaper) and she is looking forward to completing it.
1) Social Studies: GC, Writing about Greek Government. This lesson was about the Greek City-States. We read about each of 5 city-states. Then the student was to write a journal entry as a citizen of one of them and discuss her own and the others. She chose Athens, and wrote entries that include the types of government and culture of each. She finished the assignment and submitted it.
We reviewed the two ACT vocab sheets I left with the student earlier this week. We then dissected the written piece from the novel she is reading. We covered the remaining parts of American history she needs to complete the 8th grade curriculum, up through Reconstruction. This included the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, sharecropping, and the Freedman's Bureau. During our next session, the student will write a culminating essay for 8th grade Social Studies concepts after several review activities about the people, legislation, and geography relevant to the course. She will then complete a MAP-style test online (may take us through the next two sessions) and will then have completed her course requirements for this subject.
The student and I studied for her history test tomorrow. We went over the fall of the Roman Empire. Her test is in an essay format, so we went over the history together and then I had her tell me what she learned in her own words. We then went over certain aspects in more detail. Overall, she has a good working knowledge of the topic. I left her with an outline of what we went over for her to use for independent practice tonight and tomorrow morning.
The student has been working hard on her essay about Roman sports, especially since her teacher helped her changed the focus this week. I am impressed by the amount of research she has done and the number of sources she is using. We spent time polishing what she has written and expanding on her ideas to fill the space left when changing the focus. We will work a bit more on self-editing/proofreading, although she catches the errors quickly enough when I read the sentences to her.
