Pittsburgh German Tutoring FAQ

Varsity Tutors is eager to assist you in finding a Pittsburgh German tutor to help reach for your language fluency goals. A private instructor can also help your student learn. Able to guide students at any skill level, Pittsburgh German tutors are experienced educators who can apply various teaching methods and learning materials. The assistance of a private mentor can help you reach for your potential.

What can a Pittsburgh German tutor near me do to help me become fluent?

German is an important language with some similarities to English. However, there are grammatical rules that are different and which can make German challenging to learn. If your student is learning it for the first time, a private instructor can supplement their studies. Whether learning German can give you an advantage at your job or you plan on visiting Germany, the support provided by your mentor can help you communicate with native speakers.

Studying in a one-on-one educational setting is one advantage of Pittsburgh German tutoring. Your instructor's priority is to address your needs and issues. They can support your learning process by creating customized lesson plans targeting your skills and growth. Each lesson can focus on a specific topic and stay there until you understand it, with more time spent on the concepts that challenge you. Your mentor can work at your pace and stop at any time to answer your questions.

Your mentor can draw from many aspects of their expertise to help you learn German. The case, gender, and number of nouns are very important, as are the different forms of articles used with them. English articles don't change form but, in German, the article must correspond with the inflection of the noun. Your private language instructor can show you these concepts and discuss grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation. They can even guide you in pronouncing letters and sounds you may not be familiar with.

Different instructional methods can be applied depending on how you learn. Your instructor can identify your individual learning style, something a classroom teacher may not have the luxury to do. For example, flashcards can be used if you learn well visually. Other methods can be applied if you are more of an aural or verbal learner. Your educator can track your progress and adapt the study plan to account for how you are doing, correcting mistakes and even complementing your practice time with simulated immersion to improve your confidence.

How do I fit time with Pittsburgh German tutors into my schedule?

Private instruction is a flexible learning process. If you have a hectic schedule, we can account for your available time and find an educator who has the availability to help you. We'll can find your student an instructor even if they have a full set of classes and extracurricular activities. Therefore, German language learning goals can be pursued regardless of a full schedule.

You can work with your German instructor online or in-person. We have implemented a Live Learning Platform for the purpose of online instruction. It incorporates video chat so you and your mentor can communicate face-to-face. Other intuitive features include a virtual whiteboard, document editor, and recording feature, so you can watch previous sessions over to review what your instructor covered. With Pittsburgh German tutoring, you don't even need to leave your home.

Varsity Tutors can set you up with other options as well. One is in-person instruction. At your request, we can find someone prepared to help students side-by-side at a location of their choosing. You can choose to meet at home, a local coffee shop, or the Squirrel Hill branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. But you should also know about our online German language course options. Available in multiple course sections, so you can enroll in one that fits your schedule, these courses provide a virtual classroom environment where you can collaborate with peers and an expert instructor. You can therefore still reach for your goals while reaping potential benefits such as increased motivation and confidence.

German Tutoring review by Lauren in Pittsburgh, PA
The student and I reviewed one chapter in her personality psychology book, which focused on personality and social selection. We discussed how personality influences the choices people make in their social environments, how personality evokes responses in others, and what tactics are used in manipulation. We also discussed examples in relation to these concepts.

In our final session the student and I laid out a study plan for him to follow on his own so that he can be ready to take the SAT in November.  We went over how he should study for each section of the test, and what areas in particular he should work on. We did a final review of the strategies we had worked on for the especially problematic sections of the SAT.

German Tutoring review by Molly in Pittsburgh, PA
The student has a German test Friday, so we met to cover her material for that (mostly travel words). I will be sending her a list that she should commit to memory in order to increase her overall comprehension. We also spent some time reviewing sentence structure and verb placement, which is quite different in German, and went over separable verb prefixes. Finally, I introduced her to the concepts of the different German cases. She does not plan on pursuing German past high school, but this will give her some sense of why articles, adjective endings, and personal pronouns occasionally change their endings.

German Tutoring review by Dorit in Pittsburgh, PA
In this first lesson, the student and I got to know each other. It was great to see him make an effort to communicate with me in German straight away. For the most part, we reviewed vocabulary so that I could gain a better understanding of his proficiency level in German. We covered colors, parts of the body, a few animals, a few items around the house and some common food items. I left a small German picture dictionary with him to continue to work with.

German Tutoring review by Charles in Pittsburgh, PA
We powered through verb drills on fifty common regular verbs. The exercise was simple: get 10 right in a row, and we would stop. It took all evening, but he got it in the end. Next week we will focus on article endings.

German Tutoring review by Marcel in Pittsburgh, PA
Today I basically helped the student with the same material as last week. I explained to her how different prepositions indicate different cases and I explained to her how she can find out whether an object is indirect or direct. So far she is doing very well with identifying cases and gender. I have no concerns for the next session.
