About Me

I am passionate and enthusiastic about student learning. I am sensitive to the needs of individual students perceiving each one as a unique and special human being. I believe the quality of education a person receives in early life is indispensable in bringing out that person's potential. I believe all students should have access to quality learning in a meaningful, fun, creative and safe environment to contribute to their growth and overall well-being. I take a student focused approach providing well-balanced, supportive and engaging lessons while remaining flexible to ensure individual learning styles and abilities are addressed. I greatly value student input and involve the student in setting goals which are attained by progressing through small, manageable incremental steps. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science from Texas Christian University and an Elementary Education Teaching Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. I have worked with children and middle school students in various settings for 26 years. From 1998-2005 I assisted the Special Education Teacher in a Kindergarten through Fifth Grade Learning Support Classroom that was part of the Pittsburgh Public School System. Spanning the years of 2005-2015 I ran my own childcare business taking care of young children in their homes providing developmentally appropriate activities and attending to their cognitive, physical, emotional and social development. My area of concentration is Math and Science but I also enjoy teaching Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary and Phonics. I feel I can make the greatest impact and attain the most effective results working one on one and face to face with a student. Meeting the student where he or she is and attending to the unique individual needs of each student is paramount. I prefer a library or home setting as these environments are quiet and conducive to studying. My goal has always been and always will be for the student to reap and enjoy the fruits of his or her labor.
