I am an 8th grade Language Arts teacher with a passion for reading and writing. I love the way reading a novel can pick you up and bring you anywhere. Someplace magical, someplace mysterious. Writing is an outlet used for expression and can be very therapeutic. Finding your creativity is a fun way to get to know yourself better.In addition to teaching, I am also the debate coach at my school. I'm an animal lover and in my free time I volunteer at many different animal rescue associations.I am able to travel throughout both Westchester, New York areas as well as Fairfield County, Connecticut.

My name is Francis Nguyen. I am married and have three beautiful daughters. I graduated with a Bachelor in Math Education in 2000 and a Masters in Math in 2003 from Fairfield University. I have been teaching high school for over 20 years. The subjects I have taught ranged from elementary math to Trigonometry. I love to help children learn math and succeed in math.

I know what it's like to feel inadequate in the classroom. I grew up in a high-performing school district where many of my peers were able to excel without putting forth any effort. Meanwhile, I was spending countless hours reading, drilling flash cards, and reworking problems without receiving the same results. School just never came naturally for me, and I often felt incompetent, unmotivated and embarrassed to ask for help. Thankfully, I had wonderful teachers, mentors, and tutors along the way that helped me master the strategies and techniques that worked best for my studies and inspired me to love learning. I became increasingly confident throughout the years, eventually earning a spot at my dream college and currently pursuing a career that I'm truly passionate about.I now wish to pay it forward and be a positive influence for the students that are frustrated in school. Based on my own experiences, I recognize how important it is to form a relationship with the student to where they are comfortable with seeking assistance and communicating their feelings and frustrations with me. Once a rapport is established, I'm able to identify the students' disconnects and convey the confusing concept or strategy in a new and understandable way. My goal is to help students develop a love of learning, and I seek to achieve that by inspiring motivation and confidence both inside and outside of the classroom.

Writing is a passion of unexplainable intensity to me. Every day I think about the ways I can be a better writer, which often makes me a better thinker, and that's what I desire for everyone I tutor to also feel. That's the philosophy I've approached tutoring with in the past, both officially and unofficially, academically or otherwise.I not only want more people to feel excitement when it comes to writing, but I also want them to feel a sense of confidence. It is such a fun, and explorative, outlet for me and I find it hard not to want to share that experience with others, even if it is not also their passion. I hope that I can open doors in the minds of my students that help them consider writing in ways they never have before, rather than as an academic chore or boring mode of conveying information. No matter where my path in life takes me, that's always my first and foremost driving vision as a writing, and overall English, enthusiast. I hope to use my current BA in English, and eventual MFA in Creative Writing, to continue aiming towards this ever-evolving goal.

I recently graduated from Tulane University down in New Orleans, LA with a degree in finance and energy. I have extensive tutoring experience over the years since I started back in high school helping my fellow classmates in a variety of subjects and SAT test prep. Subjects I have tutoring in the past include algebra, geometry, trig., pre-calc, chemistry, and physics. I continued to tutor while I was in college, spending the majority of my time helping underprivileged students at our local elementary schools. These kids often struggled in school and have had to repeat the same grade multiple times. Our program focused on reading comprehension and writing, and I am proud to say my student made it on the school honor roll for the first time. I view tutoring as a form of giving back to my community and as a mutual learning experience for me and my student. My teaching style stresses focusing on separating concepts that my student already knows from those that they are struggling with. This style has worked in the past for me as it clearly outlines our objectives and makes best use of our limited time. Outside of school, I enjoyed going out with friends for dinner or shows. I am currently a Senior at the University of Connecticut majoring in Business Management and minoring in Public Policy. My career interests include human resources, programming, and non-profit management. Along with non-profit management, I enjoy volunteering and helping others.As a tutor at the middle, high school, and college level, I have a wide range of experience helping students in various subjects, including Chinese, reading, and math, which is my favorite subject.Tutoring is one of my favorite ways to help others because it is so rewarding. Helping students through their academic problems is an opportunity for me to further enhance the generation of tomorrow for success.
