French Tutoring review by Kristi in Fox Lake, IL
We completed a Test Review Sheet. We reviewed the future tense, prepositions used with cities and countries, demonstrative pronouns, possessive pronouns and the difference between sortir, partir and quitter (to go out of an interior space, to leave an exterior place and to leave a direct object/person). The student has difficulty remembering the genders (le village but la ville, for example). She also needs to review the future stems and endings of the verbs. It's daily memorization time that she needs to fit into her busy schedule. She really wants to do well in French class. I told her that most countries that end in the letter "e" or start with a vowel sound are feminine. The others are masculine and the United States is plural. But, she has a list of cities and countries to review. She needs to clarify with the French teacher which French verbs in the future tense that she needs to study. I did not see a list of French verbs to practice in the future tense. She needs to ask the teacher if she should study past worksheets on the possessive and demonstrative pronouns or if there are textbook pages that she should review. She needs to find out the difference between penser a and penser de (to have someone in one's mind or imagination or to have an opinion about something or someone). She is going to ask questions in class about the review sheet and try to find out from the teacher exactly what the teacher wants the focus of the test to be. It's difficult to memorize every verb in the dictionary in the future tense, for example.

French Tutoring review by Sammy in Fox Lake, IL
The student's homework was checked on yesterday's session. It was about writing eight different sentences on the different types of interrogative pronouns in French and writing about her childhood using the past tenses in paragraphs. She had a noticed progress using the different types of past tenses properly and using good researched vocabulary which some of them are the ones that she learned during the sessions. Her childhood text was good, very well worked on and constructive. However, she had some problems understanding the different types of the interrogative pronouns, so I've printed more exercises on that topic that she did during our last session. Eventually, the student should be able to use those pronouns properly by employing them in her future homework. At the end of the session, I asked the student to rewrite her whole text after the correction, so that she focuses on and develops her own writing with her own ideas.
