Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had a productive session. We went over a few examples of confidence intervals and two-sample proportions as well as some calculator questions. We will meet again after his spring break."
"I helped the student with some statistics homework given to her by her professor. The student was given a problem that involved a stratified sample. We created a 95% CI for the population and then for 2 strata within the sample, and we determined that the strata were different. We were then asked how large of a sample was required to get a margin of error of <4. After some contemplation, we solved the problem algebraically."
"The student and I continued to review for her exam. Topics were continuous variables, probability distribution, normal distribution, and binomial distribution. She also completed practice exercises from the text."
"The student reviewed her concerns with me. We set an immediate short-term goal of raising her grade 4%, and performing better on her upcoming midterm. Immediately thereafter, we formed goals to outline and attack upcoming material well before test time. I created an outline of the following topics: population mean (sigma known) / (sigma unknown), hypothesis tests, inferences about the difference between two population means (sigma1 and sigma2 known/ unknown), goodness of fit test, test of independence, and testing for equality of three or more population proportions, to be covered in the next session with example problems and guided assistance in identifying problem types and appropriate formulas. Currently the student is most concerned with raising her grade. In studying for the upcoming test, I hope to overcome that and shift the goal to increased understanding of problem identification and formula application."
"Today was spent by the student trying to finish the homework and start to prepare for the upcoming test. It was important that we start covering past subjects and understanding what the different terms for probability were."
"The student and I had an excellent lesson. The repetition has been working great for him, and he's going through the steps more and more independently without me doing much to help him along. I'm confident that he can handle this material."
