I graduated from Duke University with a BS in Economics and a BA in Linguistics. I was also on the Duke Dance Team, studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, speak Spanish and Chinese, and have worked on a couple start-ups. I will be starting a job in August in finance in New York and have worked as a tutor for 6 years, both privately and with America Reads and Counts. I love working with motivated students and always see great improvement. I am especially strong with SAT and PSAT test prep tutoring. I am excited to work with students in NYC!

Reflecting on my educational experiences, I realized the huge impact the relation of a teacher and his students plays on the education of young people. What people learn in the classroom, especially at a young age, will help them achieve many of their life's goals. As a tutor, I hope to be a role model that cultivates the interest of young students in knowledge, to get the necessary skills to succeed in the classroom, to open their mind and think critically.I started tutoring at a very young age when many of my classmates asked to help them study for tests but professionally for about three years. Soon I realized that tutoring is more than teaching for a test; to me tutoring is preparing the student to face any challenge even when I am not there to help them. My experience working in varied environments has enabled me to develop a range of practical skills. I am able to manage challenging behavior effectively, conduct activities safely, communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, and develop different teaching methods.What motivates me to be a tutor is the pure joy to engage with the student, to help them achieve higher goals, to challenge them to become better not only inside the classroom but outside as well. Being a tutor is very challenging, demanding but it is one of the most exiting careers there are. I look forward to doing a career that is so important, being privileged to be such a fundamental part of so many lives and making a difference.

During my tutoring sessions I will identify how each student learns best and cater our time together accordingly.I believe that my educational and career experiences have equipped me with the necessary skills to be a highly effective tutor. Throughout college, I worked as a tutor for the Economics department. I have also gone on to work as a freelance writer, publishing essays and film reviews in places like The Atlantic and CT Magazine. I can tutor a wide range of subjects, but I am most passionate about English, Literature, Writing, Economics and Politics. Students I've worked with seem to enjoy writing the most when they discover their own voice, and quit trying to write in jargonese. I recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics as well as a B.A. in Philosophy. This fall, I will be continuing my studies at the University of Michigan as I pursue a PhD in Economics, and I hope to work as a professor in applied microeconomics after completing my degree. While economics is what I am most passionate about, I have also really enjoyed studying mathematics, which I was able to pursue extensively as an undergraduate. As a tutor, I hope not only to push my students to excel but also to help them begin to enjoy their studies as well (as difficult as that may be for high school students!). In line with my aspirations to work in higher education, I believe that education is an incredibly important and rewarding endeavor, and I look forward to watching my students succeed.
