About Me

I am a motivated professional and passionate educator with over three years experience tutoring at the high school and college levels. I tutor primarily in upper-level maths, including Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, and Calculus. In addition, I tutor high school and college Spanish to non-native speakers from beginning to advanced. I also work with college students on research and essay writing in humanities subject areas (e.g. Political Science, History, Anthropology, etc). As an alumni counselor, I've also mentored students through the entire UC college application process, from personal statements to resume-building. My tutoring style combines positive reinforcement with honest assessment. By opening an intellectual dialogue between myself and my students, I seek to create a learning environment where trial, error, and success can occur readily, all with the intention of building confidence through familiarity with the material. I am constantly re-evaluating my methods to allow students to perform at personal-best levels. And while quantifiable test results are ultimately key, I take care to shape and reinforce positive study habits to equip my students with tools for long-term success and academic preparedness. In addition to my experience as a tutor and academic mentor, I have had the privilege of working with students in a number of capacities. As an elected student representative at UCLA, I treated every staff meeting as an opportunity for personal and collective growth as we identified and tackled campus issues that ranged from student loan debt to de-stigmatizing mental illness. In my most recent role as a community organizer, I developed a 3-month program to train low-wage working mothers on topics ranging from workplace rights and political lobbying to event planning and meeting facilitation. These roles required a high degree of accountability and loyalty and deeply shaped my approach to building collaborative work environments conducive to life-long learning and critical analysis. I am an avid reader, runner, and cat lover. I love to try new foods, meet new people, and explore different cultures. Learning languages and keeping up with current events are probably my biggest pastimes. I am also huge on community service and student leadership!!
