Varsity Tutors can link new New York medical students to professional Albany MCAT prep. There are a number of preparation options available to students who are taking the MCAT before applying to medical schools in the Albany area, such as Albany Medical College. The Medical College Admission Test is the admissions test that is accepted by almost all medical schools around the country.
You can take a course or get private mentoring in order to prepare for this important exam. Your scores on the exam, both on individual sections of the exam and the exam as a whole, can impact your future educational opportunities and your career. It is important to prepare properly before taking this exam.
What is covered on the Medical College Admission Test?
There are four sections on the MCAT. It is crucial that you prepare properly for all of them before the test day. Your final score on each section will be between 118-132. All four scores will be combined to create a fifth total score.
The first section is the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems portion. Most of the questions are based on a set of 10 passages. There are 15 others that are independent. You will be tested on concepts such as the functions of the human body and its tissues and organs, chemical and physical foundational principles that are present in living systems, and chemical and physical mechanisms that are present in the human body. There will be 59 questions in this section, with 95 minutes allotted to it.
The next section will be the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section. You will have 53 questions, which will be based on a set of nine passages. You will have 90 minutes to complete these questions. You will not need to know any special knowledge for this section, even though the passages will cover various disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. Instead, the skills that will be tested in this section will include verbal reasoning, your reading comprehension level, and your analytical reasoning skills.
The third section will be Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. You will have 95 minutes to complete 59 questions. Outside of 15 of the questions, all questions will be based on a set of 10 passages. Subjects you will need to know for this section include general chemistry, organic chemistry, basic biochemistry, and introductory biology. You will be tested on concepts such as processes that are unique to living organisms and basic biological and biochemical concepts.
The next section will be the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. You will have 95 minutes to complete 59 questions. The questions, aside from 15 of them, will be based on a set of 10 passages. Subjects you will need to study for this section will include introductory psychology, introductory sociology, and biology. Questions will cover topics such as human and social issues that are present in the field of medicine, how human behavior can impact health, and skills you will need to know in order to serve a diverse population.
What kind of help can I get for my Albany MCAT prep?
There are two basic courses of action you can take when preparing for the Medical College Admission Test. One that many students find beneficial is to enroll in an Albany MCAT prep course. These courses are administered over the internet by educated instructors. Even though you will be taking this course over the web, you will still be interacting with other students in real time. You also have the opportunity to ask questions of the instructor. You can take an Albany MCAT prep class that lasts either two weeks or four weeks.
A class led by an instructor can help you review all of the information you need to know for all four sections of the Medical College Admission Test. This is a great way to make sure that you are not leaving anything out and that you did not miss a certain topic that is required knowledge for the test. You will be interacting with other students in your virtual classroom, which can help everyone taking the class gain new insights into what is being discussed.
Another option for GMAT prep is seeking out private lessons and customized instruction from an Albany MCAT tutor. A private educational instructor will be able to work with you on your own level and at your own pace. Your educational mentor can help assess which areas you need to focus more of your time on and allocate more of your studying sessions towards reviewing those subjects.
An educational mentor can be there for you if you have a lot of questions you need to ask. While a class instructor may be available to answer some questions, he or she will not be able to provide you 100 percent of their time and attention. Working with a private tutor allows you the undivided attention of your instructor.
Some medical students feel that the best way to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test is to take a course and get private mentoring lessons at the same time. This way, they can review everything they need to know for the test and still have time to ask questions about topics they did not fully understand.
