What can I review with Richmond MCAT prep?
The MCAT contains four sections: Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior; Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; and Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems. All except the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section allows 95 minutes to tackle the 59 multiple-choice questions offered on each one. The MCAT results in five scores: a combined total score and one for each of the four sections. Let's explore the expectations of each section of the test.
There are 53 questions on the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section. You have 90 minutes to complete this portion, which focuses on reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills. There are nine passages with 5-7 related questions following each one. These are pulled from many different sources. You will need to be able to gain insight, apply ideas to other contexts, and understand how new information can impact something.
The Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section addresses a variety of different human and social issues that play a role in medicine. There are a number of concepts you will face in this section, including cultural and social differences' impact on well-being, access to medical resources, and others. The format of this section and the ones to follow are 10 passages followed by a set of 4-6 questions and 15 stand-alone questions.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section assesses your understanding of basic biochemistry, introductory biology, and general and organic chemistry topics. You will need strong scientific inquiry and reasoning skills, as well as a firm grasp of the cells and organ systems behind biological processes that organisms can accomplish. There will be questions that ask you to consider how cells and organ systems work together to adapt, maintain the right internal environment, and even respond to a change in the environment.
Finally, the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section is designed to measure your understanding of the human body's tissues, organs, and organ systems. This section focuses on topics from general, organic, and inorganic chemistry, as well as introductory biology, introductory physics, and basic biochemistry. In order to grasp the concepts presented in medical school courses, you need to understand the mechanical, biochemical, and physical functions of the human body.
What types of Richmond MCAT prep are available?
Varsity Tutors can help guide you toward the type of MCAT prep that can work for you. There are two main types of review: a prep course and private tutoring. One-on-one learning can provide a targeted approach to your test review while group learning takes a more general approach. Some students enjoy a blend of the two while others opt for one or the other. There are a variety of advantages offered by each test review option. Let's take a further look at each, starting with the prep class.
Participate in online group learning in a Richmond MCAT prep class that is led by a top-notch instructor who has the experience and skills necessary to help students get ready to go after their testing goals. You can sign up for two- and four-week sessions in multiple sections. New sessions start up every week, allowing any student to get the help they need.
Once you're signed up for a class, you can take part in group activities and discussions that revolve around the MCAT. Your expert instructor can walk your class through the contents of the test, explaining the different types of questions and format along the way. If you have trouble with an area, you can have one-on-one time set aside with your instructor to work through it.
Perhaps you would feel more comfortable working with a private mentor in a personal setting. You can connect with a Richmond MCAT tutor who can take a different approach to your test review. A personal tutor can get to know you as an individual student and create a study plan that addresses your needs. Your mentor can assess your strengths and areas of opportunity to identify areas of the exam that you could benefit most from practice. They can incorporate teaching techniques and learning materials that can appeal to your learning style.
