Varsity Tutors offers the resources you need to accommodate your Louisville MCAT preparation if the MCAT, or Medical College Admission Test, is in your future. This standardized multiple-choice exam, which is computer-based, is accepted by nearly all medical schools in the U.S. All the concepts tested are deemed important by medical school faculty as well as medical students and residents. The total testing time is 6 hours, 15 minutes, so if you're preparing to apply to an institution such as the University of Louisville School of Medicine, the quality of your Louisville MCAT prep is critical.
Adequate preparation is essential to make the most of your time, efforts, and investment at this stage. From a Louisville MCAT prep course that enables you to collaborate with an instructor and your peers to a Louisville MCAT tutor who can work to build a customized study plan for you, Varsity Tutors offers options so you can choose the type of test prep that works for you. The main focus is to ensure you receive a thorough overview of the test so you can do your best to prepare for the test.
What Does Louisville MCAT Prep Cover?
On the MCAT, your answers are scored by section and you are also given a total. Therefore, you'll receive five scores. Each section is scored from 118-132, so your total score can range from 472-528. Experimental questions may appear in any of the exam's sections. They won't count towards your score, although you won't know which questions they are.
The MCAT's sections include the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section. You have 95 minutes to answer 59 questions, which include 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 independent questions. These are focused on the functions of human body tissues, organs, organ systems, and chemical and physical principles that apply to the human body and living systems in general. Your knowledge of general, organic, and inorganic chemistry, as well as physics, biology, and biochemistry will be tested. To answer questions correctly, you'll need foundational knowledge of the laws of physics, the periodic table, and chemical reactions.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section has 53 questions you must finish within 90 minutes. You must apply your verbal reasoning, analytical, and reading comprehension skills on questions about passages that reflect content in the social sciences and humanities. While you don't need specific knowledge in these areas, your English skills will be tested and you'll need to integrate components of text, apply and extrapolate ideas from passages in new contexts, and assess the impact of new information and infer meaning from parts of the text.
Consisting of 59 questions, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems splits the total into 10 passage-based sets with 4-6 questions each, plus 15 independent questions. You'll be tested on general chemistry, organic chemistry, and introductory and basic biology over a span of 95 minutes. Your understanding of processes unique to living organisms, foundational concepts in biology and biochemistry, and scientific inquiry and reasoning skills must be strong. Many concepts are tested here. This includes the way cells and organ systems function independently and together to accomplish growth, reproduction, and adaptation.
Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior has an identical time limit and number of questions. The passage-based format is also the same. Covering biology, introductory psychology, and sociology, this section tests your knowledge related to serving a diverse population, mental health issues, how behavior impacts health, and human and social issues in medicine. You must demonstrate an understanding of concepts in human behavior, culture, social differences, and how social stratification, access to resources, and well-being are related.
How Can Louisville MCAT Prep Benefit Me?
Varsity Tutors offers two options. You can sign up for a Louisville MCAT prep class in two- or four-week sessions, which start weekly in order to accommodate busy schedules. When you attend an online class, you can see, hear, and interact with your instructor. You will also collaborate with your peers as you prepare for the MCAT. This process can include a review of materials you learned in biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, or English classes. The class can also offer practice questions to help you understand the expectations and format of the exam. If there's a topic you don't fully understand, you can request one-on-one time with your instructor for extra help.
However, if you prefer private tutoring, we can set you up with a Louisville MCAT tutor. Your private instructor can help you prepare for the exam and build a better understanding of subjects. Focused on your needs, your mentor can assess your strengths and areas of opportunity to build a customized plan to help you learn. A tutor can focus on your study and test-taking skills to help you increase your MCAT confidence, and offer tips and advice to help you perform your best on the exam. Tutoring makes it possible to receive a more personalized approach than you'll find in a classroom environment. Your sessions can reflect your specific opportunities, interests, goals, and learning style.
No matter which type of prep you choose, you can get help with learning how to understand context based on the passage given or in applying your knowledge to analyses and specific concepts. Taking an MCAT prep course can familiarize you with the format, provide a review of the information on the test, and help you fill any gaps in understanding ahead of the exam.
