Varsity Tutors can assist potential medical school students with studying for the MCAT by offering Washington MCAT prep options. There are some people who yearn to pursue a career in medicine, and they're required to take the MCAT if they want to be considered for schools like George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Services, Georgetown University School of Medicine, and Howard University College of Medicine.
The MCAT, short for the Medical College Admission Test, is a standardized exam that medical schools use to see if prospective students can handle medical college coursework. A Varsity Tutors educational consultant can set you up with personal instruction or a prep course. If you enjoy private tutoring, we can locate a Washington MCAT tutor who's skilled in their niche. If you prefer group settings, then you may like to sign up for a Washington MCAT prep course.
What can Washington MCAT prep help me review?
Four sections make up the MCAT: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. This computer-based test contains 230 multiple-choice questions. You have seven and a half hours to complete the exam. It tests you on concepts that medical students and medical teachers feel that prospective students need to know. Read more about each section below.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section has 59 questions made up of 10 passage-based sets of items and 15 independent items. It focuses on the functions of the human body's tissues and organs and chemical and physical principles that living systems possess. It tests you on science-related subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics. You have 95 minutes to answer the questions.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section contains 53 items comprised of nine passage-based sets of questions. This section focuses on reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills. It covers English, social sciences, and the humanities. Its time limit is 90 minutes.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section consists of 59 items with 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 independent questions. It focuses on processes that are unique to living organisms, reasoning skills, and biological and biochemical foundations concepts. You're given 95 minutes to complete this section.
The Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section contains 59 items with 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 independent questions. It focuses on niches like mental health issues, the link between behavior and health, and human and social issues in the medical field. It has a time limit of 95 minutes.
On the MCAT, you'll receive five scores: one for each of the above sections and one combined total score. Each section is scored from 118 to 132. Combined, these scores create a total score of 472 to 528. Nearly all schools in the United States require MCAT scores along with your application. There may be experimental questions embedded in any of the sections, but they won't count towards your final score.
What benefits does each Washington MCAT preparation service offer me?
Educational consultants at Varsity Tutors can link you up with private instruction or prep classes. You don't have to limit yourself to only one option, though. Feel more than welcome to sign up for both if you desire. Learn more about these programs by reading about them below.
Studying with a tutor helps you in many ways. For one, a private educator can appeal to your personal learning style. For example, if you absorb information better by hearing something, they can try to help you understand a concept better by reading aloud from a text. Another way a mentor can assist you is by monitoring your academic progress. During your first meeting with them, you can discuss your strengths, weaknesses, and other aspects of your individual learning style. They can then compile what you shared with them into a customized study plan that they can adjust when you demonstrate progress in your goals. An instructor can also help you build better study and organizational skills. For instance, if you want to learn how to take and keep neat, organized notes, they can show you how to arrange your notes according to a provided outline. You can even ask for career guidance. Maybe you're undecided about what medical niche you would like to specialize in. An instructor can talk with you to inspire some ideas with websites or books.
Do you meet up with classmates to study or do homework? A Washington MCAT prep class is similar to this arrangement, except everything's online, allowing you to communicate with a teacher and other pupils in a virtual classroom. It offers two-week and four-week classes with new sessions occurring on a weekly basis. In the class, you and your peers will work together to study for the MCAT. If you want to strengthen your science skills, you all can review parts of the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section. You can also prepare for the Critical Analysis and Reading Skills section by studying topics related to the humanities and social science. Because the MCAT has only multiple-choice questions, the teacher can use this as an opportunity to share excellent test-taking tips such as how to choose between two answers that sound correct. An instructor can also help you develop strategies for staying calm and focused if you experience test anxiety.
These programs sound really interesting. How do I sign up for a Washington MCAT prep option?

I have enjoyed working with students from very diverse backgrounds and starting at very different levels.
