A Virginia Beach ACT prep course offered through Varsity Tutors can help you prepare for the ACT. The ACT is a comprehensive exam and incorporates skills you have learned as you have progressed through your schooling. High school students like those attending Ocean Lakes High School who want to include college in their future, frequently have to complete this college admissions test requirement. You want to perform at your best because your scores are a primary deciding factor in the decision to admit you into a college or university.
Your ACT will have four to five sections with different time allotments and a different number of questions in each one. You must have strong time management skills to complete your exam within the time frame effectively. Guessing is allowed, so you want to make sure you answer each question. Do not let the stresses of taking the ACT restrict you from embarking on your quest for educational opportunity and possibilities. Now we will have a general review of what is on the ACT.
Does the Virginia Beach ACT class use materials that are comparable to the actual exam?
The materials that you will review in the classes are parallel to the materials that you will be tested on for the ACT. The test has five different sections: Math, Reading, Science, English, and Writing. The only optional part of the exam is Writing. Without including breaks, testing time for the four required sections lasts slightly under three hours. You will have the opportunity to take a break. However, the time used for breaks does not count in the three hours of total testing time. You will need to work quickly throughout the exam because you want to try to provide an answer to all of the questions, as there's no penalty for guessing.
Let's begin with the Math section. You will have 60 minutes to answer all 60 questions within the allotted time frame. Your knowledge of pre-algebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, geometry and trigonometry will play a significant role in your scoring results. All of the questions on the Math section are in multiple-choice format. Some topics you may want to review are common mathematical concepts, including your ability to read and interpret data from graphs, functions, reliable measurement calculations, and equation interpretation.
Next, we will have a brief overview of the Reading section of the ACT. As you are completing the Reading section of the exam, you will encounter more multiple-choice questions. A common practice for the ACT is to present passage-based questions that use skills that students will need within their first year of college studies. You will be asked to identify central ideas, summarize text, and show knowledge of different types of relationships. Some questions also cover word meanings, and others ask you to showcase your abilities to differentiate between fact and opinion. The time allotment for this portion of the ACT is 35 minutes, and you are expected to answer 40 questions within that time frame.
Throughout the Science portion of the ACT, you will have to respond to questions in a multiple-choice format. The subjects that will be covered in this section of the ACT are biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth science. You will be given 35 minutes to respond to 40 questions. The questions will measure your problem-solving, evaluation, and reasoning skills. You must be able to effectively manipulate scientific data that is presented to you in various formats as well as show your knowledge of the scientific method and procedures.
The fourth section we will explain focuses on your knowledge of English. You want to reflect your understanding of grammar and the English language. The questions you will be required to answer will be in multiple-choice, passage-based formats. The concepts in this section are topic development, organization, unity, and cohesiveness. You will want to pay attention to the tone and the style of the passages because the ability to successfully utilize these concepts can assist you in responding to questions correctly. You will also have to show your knowledge of sentence completion, basic punctuation, and other general conventions that commonly pertain to English.
You can also opt to take the Writing section of the ACT; however, this is not required. If you choose to take the writing portion of the exam, you are given an additional 40 minutes to respond to a single prompt in essay format. You will have to show your skills in connecting written work by choosing one of three responses that are given and relating the selected answer to your written response. You will have to rely heavily on your drafting and thought organization skills.

My Philosophy of Teaching My philosophy stems from the belief that a child’s life is influenced by their education and self-esteem. Education and self-esteem are the foundations for the students to be able to function in society. It is important for students to know I care about them, their learning, and their future. Confidence in my teaching ability is as important as having confidence that all students can learn. I practice and teach a positive attitude towards learning. I expect that my students learn and practice a positive attitude. Gaining an optimistic and well-rounded learning experience can help students become productive and successful in our society. Regardless of a student’s background or ability, they deserve to learn in a safe and nurturing environment. A student’s impression of school should be a positive one. Positive experiences begin with the teacher teaching in a respectful, caring, and understanding manner. Other positive experiences come from students and administrators. School is a place of discovering, growing, and learning. Stimulating and nurturing a student’s interest to learn, encourages a positive attitude about school. Students need to be creative and know it is fine to be an individual. Creativity and individuality are pulled from a variety of learning styles. Students can be more productive learners with the use of manipulative, peer tutoring, cooperative learning, and differentiated strategies. Students should be allowed to explore problem-solving methods in all academic areas as well as social interaction. Assessments assist in providing information to determine the students’ abilities and progress. Allowing students’ to assist in grading their work provides immediate feedback on performance. Students want to know how they are progressing. Experiencing different test taking strategies is equally important as knowing the information being tested. A Child’s social skills are important as a child’s education. To help students develop life skills, it is important that I create and educational environment that requires structures, consistency, fairness, and care. Students assist with rules, consequences, and rewards during the class. Constant positive modeling of desired behaviors is important. As the teacher it is important that I am always a positive role model. Being a positive role model can be the example a student needs if ever in a negative situation. I am constantly striving to improve and learn more. It is essential that I am always moving forward and increasing my knowledge and skills. Constantly moving forward will assist me in being able to effectively respond to my students’ needs. Therefore, continuing my education and acquiring new strategies for teaching will assist me in being a positive and influential role model.

As an English teacher, creating a sense of excitement in reading and writing is what I wanted students to always strive for in their academic lives. Literature and composition played an essential role in my life, and I hope students will feel the same as they explore their imagination and curiosity.
