Every student is capable of succeeding in every subject. My role is merely to facilitate, and to help students discover this fact for themselves.
My main approach is to work with my students' tendencies instead of against them. I believe I am especially equipped to help students who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, or who have a lot of energy and trouble staying focused. I myself am diagnosed with ADHD and I have personally developed tools that can help an unfocused student succeed.
When working with a new student, I like to initially find an activity related to the subject matter that comes easily to the student, then I can build a foundation that is individually tailored to meet the student's skillset and needs. Because my own interests are so diverse, I can easily provide context, show enthusiasm, and find humor that relates to students of many different backgrounds.
I have worked with students from ages 9 to 32, with experience teaching the following subjects: math (up to pre-calculus), sentential logic, the SAT, SAT II subject tests, the PSAT, the ISEE, AP exams, Art History and Theory, Art as Practice, drawing, painting, mixed media, photography (both analogue and digital), digital cinematography, video game development with Unity3d, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, Adobe After Effects, essay writing, technical writing, grant writing, English literature, and basic computer literacy.
Currently I work as a private tutor for a local company in Houston, TX, and I sell fine wines at an affluent bar/retailer on the weekends. In my spare time I am studying to become a level 1 sommelier, teaching myself web development, taking an MIT online programming course in computer science, freelancing for international publications, and playing music with other artists/musicians.
