Having enjoyed learning and completed my Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Literature and Bachelor of Science in Psychology form National Taiwan University, and Master of Arts in Research and Experimental Psychology from New York University, I love to share my knowledge and study techniques with my students. With several years' experience of private tutoring, I have been working with students at all levels and guiding them in achieving their best.
As a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese, I am proficient in both Pinyin and Mandarin Phonetic Symbols and can write professionally in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. I have studied linguistics, phonology, semantic, and Chinese paleography and have used them to facilitate my teaching with great success; I am also very familiar with both contemporary and ancient Chinese literature. I have five-year experience in private tutoring in Chinese, as both a language skill and a school subject, in preparation of the national college admission tests, and in undergraduate-level Chinese composition. I also wrote and edited a published preparation material for Chinese language of the National Basic Competence Test. In addition, I have worked on editing college and graduate school admission essays since 2005. Most of my students were accepted by top universities in Taiwan, such as National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University and National Yang-Ming University; while I, too, taught and designed the course for a student with learning disorder and had a desirable result.
On the other hand, I have solid training and knowledge in psychology and statistics. I have experience in quantitative analysis with large empirical dataset; I am also familiar with statistic packages, i.e. SAS and SPSS, and have helped my peers with statistic procedures and software. Besides all above, I am experienced teaching study skills on middle and high school levels and helping college students adjust their studying strategies, and have written a chapter of published study guide for biology of General Scholastic Ability Test and Advanced Subjects Test, which are standardized tests for college admissions in Taiwan.
Working together with my students, I encourage them not only to acquire the knowledge they need, but also to apply what they have learnt in the real life. It is most rewarding for me to motivate my students, help them explore their own interests and possibilities, assist them with setting their academic and life goals, and equip them with time management, organizational and academic skills.
