Today, the student wanted to check her homework together because she was uncertain of her answers. This particular page had mostly word problems on area and perimeter, but also had some review of money and data. It is important to go over her answers because we are reading the story problems and looking for understanding before we attempt to solve them. We focused on what the problem was asking her to do and also reviewed what area and perimeter was. I asked her to draw a picture (representation) of the rectangle and to write an equation to see what needed to be done. I had her use her white board to do the work, but wanted her to write in a journal to record what area and perimeter were. Once she was able to determine the appropriate action, she proceeded to use what she knew about multiplication and division to find the answer. She needed some direction, so I repeated the steps. I asked her to always check her answer to see if it made sense. After we checked her homework, we checked her independent work with addition and subtraction problems. She did well, with 8/10 correct. She corrected her mistakes with some guidance and she was happy to see I had written stars on her answers as we worked. I told her she has great addition and subtraction skills. Next, we had time to practice her 11's and 12's. I asked her to practice on those before Wednesday. She had a great attitude and was willing to try again and persevere when she was unsure.

We went over the student's Algebra 2 review packet. The concepts covered were writing the equation and graphing the parabola and circle. I also covered simplifying and expanding logarithmic expressions.

We studied more definite integrals, integration by parts, u substitution, rate of growth, areas under the curve, rate of assimilation, future value of continuous stream of investment. Total number of subscribers to a newspaper if rate of growth given over a period of time. Using indefinite and definite integrals.

We are worked on the student's practice test for kinematics. We worked on the problems, and she will be going over the material today. We'll be doing a vector packet tomorrow.

Today we covered the derivatives of inverse trig functions and inverse functions. The student got much better with the Chain Rule, but still needs a bit more practice [Don't forget to multiply by the derivative of the inner function, and remember that sometimes there are inner functions within an inner function!]. We went over some problems in that section.

Today, the student and I worked on exponential growth, exponential decay, how to determine if a function is growth or decay from equation, transformations of exponential equations, that a fraction and a negative exponent are the same thing, and logarithm practice.
