Kirkland Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Kirkland?

The amount learners will pay to study with a tutor for students in Kirkland varies. Indeed, just as each student is unique and has unique needs, each situation is different.

Many factors typically come into play to affect the rate, but some of the most common ones include the number of sessions requested and the credentials of the tutor. Students who sign up for more sessions may pay a lower rate per lesson than students who only require a few sessions of test prep for the LSAT or MCAT. Since there is no one-rule-fits-all, it is best to speak with one of our Educational Directors, who can give you a more accurate quote.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Kirkland?

Regardless of the courses you are taking at Northwest University, we will connect you with an instructor who can help. Your student at Lakeside School might only need help with math but be fine with reading and writing - if so, we'll link you with an expert who can help with basic to advanced math.

You could be preparing for the bar exam, the GMAT, or an elective exam of any kind. We have access to a large database of tutors who can help with many subjects, from history to science to geometry. You can study Icelandic, learn how to dance Samba, or prepare for a Microsoft Certification or any other career certification with your tutor.

Why choose Varsity Tutors for tutoring in Kirkland?

We treat every student with the utmost dedication. Our proprietary matching process ensures that your student will be collaborating with an instructor just right for their needs, learning style, and pace.

Our Educational Directors will want to know about your needs and goals; we will work closely with you on understanding them, so we can create a lesson plan just for you. Of course, the lesson plan is fully adjustable; one of the main benefits of private instruction is the ability to be flexible and get customized instruction. Your student's instructor can skip topics they already understand and spend more time on things they don't.

If you're worried your student will lose some of their knowledge during the summer months, learning with a personal instructor can help them retain more information. Their instructor can make the study sessions exciting and enjoyable, relieving the monotony of the long summer months. After-school help, such as homework review, is possible year-round as well. Learning with a private tutor can help your student feel more confident about their studies overall. They can wake up each day ready to tackle their schoolwork, knowing they will have expert help later if they don't understand something. To get started, reach out to Varsity Tutors.

Tutoring review by Andrea in Kirkland, WA
The student and I met for our final ACT prep session, although he will have one final session prior to taking the ACT. We began by reviewing his practice essay and then continued by studying strategies for the math section, focusing particularly on Backsolving and Substitution. We did a vocabulary review and finished the session by covering Chapter 10: Final Review, which refreshed many of the strategies and skills we have worked on together, as well as covering tips for what to do in the final days leading up to the test, as well as the day of the test itself.

The student and I began chapter 6, which includes imperfect and future forms of the verb "to be" (sum, esse) and present, imperfect and future forms of "to be able" (possum, posse).  There are a lot of drills and exercises in this chapter, but I'm hoping to get through as much of it as possible during our last two sessions next week.  It will depend on how much he can work over this next week.

The student and I began his final unit today, transitioning to real calculus as we studied the slope-limit definition of derivatives, theorems for differentiating functions, and applying derivatives to graphing. With a combination of the textbook's and my explanations, the student developed a good understanding of the concepts; indeed, all of his struggles today were minor and easily correctable, and most of those struggles were algebraic mistakes, not analytic. We also finished a few of the test-review problems together. On Wednesday, we will continue the unit, hopefully finishing within two or three more sessions.

Tutoring review by Russ in Kirkland, WA
Topics Covered: Energy & Work Progress: We reviewed material in preparation for an exam the student has tomorrow, 11/15. She has a great understanding of the principles but needs reminding of the relationships between them. For instance, she understands what kinetic and potential energies are but needed to be reminded that work is also energy, just a change in energy. We touched on some general algebraic relationships that emphasize this relationship and she seemed to pick up on it quite well.

Tutoring review by Seyed in Kirkland, WA
The student and I met for the last time to review for her final exam. Her final exam is non-comprehensive and it covers topics including Lewis structures, resonance, the hybridization of elements, formal charges, and other topics from chapter nine and ten. We spent the beginning part discussing the concepts behind these topics. We worked out Lewis structure diagrams and also looked at the periodic trends. We also looked at conditions for ionic and covalent bonds being formed. Overall, I believe with another review of the chapters she will be sufficiently prepared for the final exam.
