10th Grade Math Tutor • +36 Subjects
I am currently an undergraduate student at Boston University studying Biomedical Engineering. I have a strong passion for the math and sciences and love sharing and passing this passion to others. I am a committed and dedicated student and tutor who believes that everyone possesses the ability to learn new things. I am a strong believer in adapting my teaching style to fit the needs of the student and how they learn best. I find it is easiest to learn when you are interested and engaged in a subject and that is what I try to teach. I have a strong desire to help others reach their full potential and help them find what they are interested in. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors hiking, biking and playing sports.

Conversational French Tutor • +6 Subjects
Being a part of someone success is the main reason I decided to be a French tutor. Indeed, after finishing my studies in Ivory Coast where I earned a Bachelor degree in Business Law, I had the opportunity to teach French for a year and half. It was a great experience, for I got to share all my knowledge with amazing students who were happy and excited to learn French. Also, I lived in France for two (2) years, which made me fall even more in love with French and reinforced the fact I wanted to be a teacher. I moved to the US four (4) years ago and I am currently working on a second Bachelor in Communication. Furthermore, I learned that the best way to teach someone is always by communicating and listening. I always like to let my students express themselves in order to find out their learning style. Finally, I am easy going and I love traveling, reading, listening to music, and sometimes hanging out with friends.

ACT Math Tutor • +18 Subjects
I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a major in biology, a minor in mathematics, and a provisional teaching certificate for secondary education (grades 7-8 all subjects; grades 9-12 biology and math). I also have advanced degrees in biochemistry, physiology, cell and molecular biology. While a graduate student at the University of Illinois, I taught introductory and advanced courses in biology as a teaching assistant. I am passionate about biology, or shall I say, the study of life. As a scientist in the biotech industry, I used my math and chemistry skills daily. My teaching/tutoring style is to impart enough information and understanding of a topic to direct a learner toward self-education and problem solving. My style is not to provide the answer, but to guide one in knowing how to arrive at the answer. This approach has served me well in my professional career, as well as in my personal life. I find myself always challenged with learning new things, and self-learning is the key. For example, to advance my professional career, I took an online course in statistics. In my personal life, in order to become a better coach to my sons baseball team, I went to the web and studied videos on fielding, batting, throwing and pitching, and used this knowledge to run practices and develop players. My professional career has been in biotech, where I have been a mentor and trainer to colleagues, and an educator and resource to customers toward understanding the application of advanced technologies. Also, as part of my professional career, I had the opportunity to live in France and to further develop my French language skills. After moving to the US from Montreal, I took French language classes to continue to develop my grammar. As an adult, I lived in France for two years and received a Diplome de Langue Francaise avec mention assez bien (high honors) through Alliance Francaise. I enjoy sharing this language and culture with others.I am looking for new students who are eager to learn, and who want to develop their own learning skills. You may be struggling with a subject, but with time, patience, practice and a tutoring approach geared toward your learning style, you will succeed, grow confident, master a subject, and become a self-learner.

My passion for helping students originates from my understanding of how challenging academics can be and how rewarding it feels to achieve academic success, especially after overcoming seemingly insurmountable barriers to learning. I want to help students feel happy and confident about their ability to achieve academic success, and that is why I tutor. In high school, I volunteered for my community's youth orchestral program for about three years, teaching students aged seven to fourteen how to play instruments and read music. Therefore, I am comfortable working with students of all ages and backgrounds and understand how to help students learn effectively depending on their individual needs and desires. Due to my academic background, I can effectively transfer the tutoring skills I strengthened through volunteering to a different subject area: English, or more broadly, reading and writing.I am currently a junior at Boston University working toward my Bachelor of Arts in English. Because I am currently a college student, I am intimately familiar with the culture of standardized testing, specifically the ACT and Advanced Placement (AP) tests, and can therefore help students achieve high scores on such tests. Moreover, because my current academic studies primarily focus on reading and writing, I am well-equipped to tutor those subjects. English is my favorite subject to tutor because I love watching students grow more confident in their reading and writing abilities as they progress through their schoolwork. I firmly believe that instilling confidence in students about their ability to read and write well is key to high academic performance: oftentimes, students perform better than they believe they do, so they just need a person to encourage them to believe in themselves, which frequently occurs when they achieve academic success in the individualized setting that is tutoring. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (big surprise there), listening to music (of all kindsI am probably Boston University's busiest music nerd), and computer gaming (I love The Sims series!).

I am a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University (formerly Baldwin-Wallace College) in Ohio, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English. I specialized in Early Modern British Literature and have strengths in grammar and composition as well. I also hold a Master of Divinity cum laude from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. I taught in the Public Schools of Robeson County in North Carolina. I taught 12th grade English, which included British Literature and essay writing. Prior to that, I worked as a substitute teacher in the Iowa City Community School District. I thoroughly enjoy helping students understand that while literature is often written in a style that can be hard to understand, it touches on experiences and emotions that are common to us all. While all students have different learning styles, they also all have the ability to learn and enjoy education. Particularly in the global society, education and the ability to think critically are essential foundations for success in high school, college, and beyond. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, biking, kayaking, racquetball, all Pittsburgh sports, and spending time with my wife and family.

I am an undergraduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and I have tutored students since my early high school years. I've had experience instructing and guiding a variety of students, from young middle schoolers taking their first steps into the world of computer programming to my own peers struggling with their calculus exams. Over the past year alone, I've worked with over 30 students, spending several hours each day to help them stay up to speed on their schoolwork. I specialize in many areas of math as well as computer science, biology and physics. When tutoring students, I draw on my own experience with learning the material to identify and address the obstacles they face. I believe that promoting a deeper level of understanding of the subject, as opposed to merely teaching to the test or problem set, will enable students to excel in the long-term.

Algebra Tutor • +19 Subjects
Hi, I'm Aarzu! I'm currently an undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University, studying biochemistry and computer science. Since I was in elementary school, I have been making efforts to learn and understand mathematical concepts at more advanced levels through self studying and classes outside of school. I also have a lot of experience tutoring kids of all ages in math. I tutored at my local Russian School of Mathematics as well as at my high school through the National Honor Society. I also have experience tutoring high schoolers in chemistry.I love finding ways to explain complicated concepts in simpler ways because not only is it rewarding to help others gain a deeper understanding of a subject I am so passionate about, but because it gives me an opportunity to understand the concept at a deeper level.Aside from my experience tutoring kids in both simple and advanced math concepts, I also have the grades and test scores to indicate my knowledge of the material. I received an 800 both on the SAT II Math Level 2 Exam and the math portion of the SAT. I also received a 5 on the AP calculus exam. I was an active member of my high school's competitive math team and was also the captain as an upperclassman.I truly love working with students and finding the most effective way to help them understand the material at hand. I am very patient and I believe that it is important to highlight how far a student have come, rather than just how much they have left to learn. I want to provide the most benefit to students that I can, so feel free to let me know if there is something you think I could do better. Feel free to contact me at any time!
