Recent Bristol Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Trieu in Bristol, VA
The student and I started today's session by correcting his returned geometry exam. We reviewed the material learned from last time and corrected the questions that he missed on the exam. Next, we learned about the basic trigonometric functions: sine, cosine, and tangent. We defined the special name of each triangle's leg and how they are related to one another in basic trig functions. Then, he completed the homework assignment by setting up equations using trig functions. We discussed points of elevation and depression and how to set up the appropriate right triangles for each type of problem. Finally, we used the calculator to verify our answers. Several pages of handwritten notes were scanned and emailed to the student's mom the following day. These pages contained concise notes and examples over material we have been covering together during tutorial sessions. I hope they serve as useful study aides and are helpful in outlining key concepts.

Tutoring review by Brendan in Bristol, VA
The student and I began today by working through some test corrections for a quiz he took recently. In particular, we looked at some integrals that involved trigonometric and rational integrands. We also looked at a few problems on the derivative of an inverse function, in particular, using the formula if g and f are differentiable, and g is the inverse of f, then g'(x) = 1/(f'(g(x))).

Tutoring review by Jimmy in Bristol, VA
Today, we covered triangle proofs, orthocenter, circumcenter, centroids, solving systems of equations, and solving for triangle sides and angles. He was positive the entire session, and I had no problems with him. I gave him a few tips on solving problems and taking it slow. He understands a good majority of the concepts. He should do well on his upcoming test. I feel that he just needs a little more practice to do excellently.
