This week's session was an initial assessment of what we need to cover, along with a few study tips. The student and I talk about what classes she has the most trouble in (AP Lit and AP Bio), and we will be working on the test taking skills in later sessions. We will also work on how to learn well when you have a teacher whose style does not necessarily make sense to you.

In today's lesson we first reviewed the student's daily log for the last few days. I again reminded him to write on the day what he actually does (it's easier to remember) before we planned out his schedule for the next few days. He started up school again this week and he doesn't really have classes, yet. We then spent the rest of the lesson working on his American government and economics homework where I helped him understand better U.S.-Russian relations.

Today the student and I went through the goals we set for planning ahead with studying and working on projects. I set a new goal for her to write down her anticipated study time in order to check it off like she does with all of her other homework. I hope this will allow her more time to study effectively over several days. She let me know areas where she felt strong and areas she felt she could improve. For the final part of our session, we went through a science study guide and I helped explain any concepts she found challenging.

On Tuesday, I worked with the student on a history assignment in preparation for the AP History Test. We read through the text about the advent of civilization, and I helped him think more critically in his analysis of historical events by asking open-ended questions. By the end of the session, he was able to identify the reasons why humans were able to transition from a nomadic lifestyle into complex societies. I also helped him stay on top of his organization and had him move all of the loose papers floating around in his backpack into the appropriate class folders

This session was focused on getting prepared for the student's language arts final exam. We went over the main components of an essay, sentence formation, and various terms used in literary analysis. We also covered some important vocabulary terms and I had her read a news article to test her comprehension. I left her with instructions to go over the material a few more times to make sure she does well on her exam. Next session will also be test prep for her history exam.
