Hi everyone. I am a masters-educated teacher who has worked in three different countries, namely Japan, Vietnam and, most recently, Spain for the past seven years and am happy to be here again in my hometown of San Diego! My previous jobs included teaching English and organizing film-related activities at an American community college in Vietnam; assisting local English and History/Science teachers in Spain; and a time on the prestigious Japan Exchange and Teaching Program.I have also served as a Japanese-English, English-Japanese translator for various projects as I have studied the language for over four years at San Diego State, as well as lived five years in Japan. I have kept my skills mostly by keeping in touch with my friends abroad as well as reading Japanese books I have lugged around between countries. I hold a Japanese Language Proficiency Test qualification of N2 which is the second-highest level, so, while I am not a native, beginners and intermediate students can rest assured that I can help them with those pesky kanji compounds and keigo while also learning how to speak more naturally.As for my Spanish, I am proud to report that I finished my masters at the University of Alcala de Henares in Spain and, like much of San Diego these days, have spoken Spanish since birth. My primary focus is Latino Spanish but I am also comfortable with the Castilian variety since that I see is just as prominent in schools.In-between these jobs, I have also worked as a photographer and filmmaker with my work being published in the "2:46 #Quakebook" charity book, Otaku USA magazine (yes, I am something of a nerd) and, of all things, the billboard of a Tokyo hot dog shop. I have a BA in Television, Film and New Media Production from San Diego State, so I am also more than happy to extend my knowledge of effective camera techniques, shot composition, and post-production on both still and motion pictures.I am a strong believer in helping students grow to become autonomous in their studies. It doesn't happen overnight but when it does happen, it will acknowledged and built further upon. I believe in making sessions dynamic and adapt to student's needs as I see them and as told to me. I have been employed as a middle school teacher in the same local district for nearly twenty-five years now. I like to focus on the writing process, reading comprehension and math skills. I have two children, one who is completing a program to become a Physician Assistant, and the other who is a college Sophomore studying to become a middle school science teacher. After undergrad, I moved to Asia where I taught in the slums of India, orphanages in Thailand, and at an International school where I taught students K-6 from over 26 countries. I helped develop an entire Special Eduation reading curriculum from scratch and started a school among the street children I lived by. Since then, I have taught in the United States as a Reading and Intervention Specialist where I have seen several students no longer require special education after my services. I have 6 years of teaching experience.My lifelong passion is to teach students how to read effectively, and feel loved and encouraged. I strategically plan lessons to help students see the greatest level of success in all areas.

I currently am a K-3 grade Inclusion teacher for Apache Junction Unified School District. I absolutely love seeing my children grow academically each year. I have my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my Master's degree in Special Education (Cross Categorical). I began teaching in 2008 and my backgrounds cover grades Preschool-3rd grade. I was born in The Netherlands and have lived on the West Coast (CA and AZ) since the age of 7. I attended Northern Arizona University and obtained a BS in Sociology and a BA in French in 2013. My junior year of college, I had the amazing opportunity to study sociology in Montpellier, France. During college, I always stayed involved in with volunteer organizations and have worked with everything from building trails in the wild forests of Utah to befriending home-bound seniors get around easier. In life, I always try to surround myself with different people and environments.After working in a retirement home for a year, I decided to join Teach for America and began teaching in rural Eastern North Carolina. I had the pleasure of teaching second grade for two years. The students had skill levels and interests of all kinds, and I truly learned how to adapt and facilitate. Although we were an underfunded district in a low-income rural area, we created a classroom centered around exploration and diligence. By the end of the year, students were telling me things about the world that I didn't know!The best moment is when a student figures or learns something on their own because of the tools you have given them. That's what makes me excited about tutoring one-on-one in New York City.I enjoy tutoring elementary subjects because they can be done in very creative and engaging ways. Even math can be drawn, sung or painted. My sessions will strive to create real connections and interactions with the content.I can also tutor in French for all ages.Outside of tutoring, I am working on an educational app that would coach parents on how to help their students with academic vocabulary. I also enjoy music, art, biking, hiking, traveling and exploring coffee shops.

As a psychology major, I focus on the development of the mind and its connection to the emotions that we use to learn. Understanding the process of learning from a psychological perspective gives me an advantage in my ablility to tutor. I am able to identify where each student meets their challenges, to then apply the best accurate teaching techniques to help them achieve their highest potential academic goal.

I received my Bachelor's Degree from Temple University and my Master's Degree from Saint Joseph's University both in Philadelphia, PA. As a teacher who is state certified to teach Elementary Education, Middle School Math and Middle Science, I bring almost 30 years of classroom teaching and tutoring experience to the table. The majority of that time has been spent in the middle school math and science content areas, however, I am proficient at tutoring Middle School Math, Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II as well as high school biology and physical science. In my teaching career, I have acquired a plethora of experience with teaching students with various learning differences as well as those students who come from traditionally undeserved populations. . My belief is that all students are capable of learning, they just need the right teacher at the right point in their learning path. I always strive to be that teacher for the students that I teach!

Hi, I'm Shannon Wills! I'm a current student at Keene State College in New Hampshire and I absolutely love it. Currently, I am studying Elementary Education and History with hopes to minor in Spanish as well. I've been a part of classroom environments since I was 13, beginning my experience in a toddler classroom as a volunteer for ages 16 months to 3 years. As I got older, my love for teaching grew and I began to work in summer school classrooms! For two summers I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of a 5th grade summer school classroom. Within the classroom, I helped the head teacher with lessons and guided reading, writing, and math activities. I'm definitely a big fan of interactive activities and learning like Kahoot or Jeopardy! I also spent a summer as a camp counselor and I found my passion for arts and crafts. From construction paper to glitter, I love getting creative and having fun with it. This past summer, I worked as a part of an amazing program and spent my summer connecting and teaching within a second grade classroom alongside two other amazing teachers! Like the 5th grade classroom, my focus was mainly on helping build lesson plans and working both individually and in groups with our students. Teaching is something I absolutely love and it has always been a passion of mine. I love it as not only do I get to help learn, but I'm also learning so much from you! As a future teacher, I want to make learning environments personal and fun. Growing up I always learned the most when teachers made lessons colorful and fun, which is something that I want to carry on. I believe that a classroom should be an environment of cohesive fun and learning. I hope that through my own effort and teaching, I myself can show our future generations how amazing they are and how they can achieve anything they put their minds to!

I am a 2010 graduate from The Pennsylvania State University. I have experience working with children and teens with special needs. I am currently an autistic and emotional support teacher at Child Guidance Resource Centers. I also have experience working in the general education classroom as a substitute and assistant. I have always enjoyed working with children. I started coaching soccer at 15 years old and babysat frequently. I have a passion for teaching and enjoy teaching all subjects.
