What can Nashville GRE prep help me review?
The prospect of taking the GRE might seem daunting. Knowing where to start and which study materials to trust could have you spinning your wheels. The GRE is composed of three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. You may also encounter one of two unscored sections: Experimental or Research. The Experimental section, if present, will be embedded in either the Verbal or Quantitative Reasoning sections. The optional Research section would appear at the end of the test. The test typically takes approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete. You will face a range of questions that will challenge both your foundational subject knowledge as well as your test-taking skills. Let's take a closer look at the three core test sections to give you better insight into the topics you may need to prepare for.
The Verbal Reasoning section will present you with three different question types, including text completion, sentence equivalence, and reading comprehension. Each type of question requires you to tap into a variety of skills, such as critical thinking, contextualizing, and textual evaluation. The reading comprehension questions will present you with passages ranging from one to several paragraphs long. These passages may be literary critiques, social science texts, or scientific articles, so it is important to refine your critical reading skills in order to answer the questions relating to these passages. You will also encounter incomplete passages that require you to utilize context in order to complete the text.
In the Quantitative Reasoning section, your basic math skills and ability to reason with numbers will be tested by three different types of questions: quantitative comparison, numeric entry, and multiple-choice, some of which require multiple answers. A lot of the content covered in this section will be similar to what you studied as a high school student, such as algebra, geometry, arithmetic, and data analysis. While you might be familiar with the content of the questions, the structure and modeling of the questions may be quite different. Some of the Quantitative Reasoning questions are posed in mathematical settings, while others are posed using real-life settings or word problems, meaning they must be translated and modeled mathematically. Utilizing GRE prep is a good way to refresh your knowledge of mathematical concepts and terms that you may have forgotten over the years, like integers, geometric formulas, functions, and scatterplots.
The Analytical Writing section is separated into two tasks, one where you must analyze an argument and one where you will analyze an issue. To coherently analyze an issue, it's important that you are able to sufficiently understand the thesis of the text as well as identify supporting claims and viewpoints. A succinct argument should be informed by the information presented to you in the text, therefore necessitating critical reading skills. Your success in this section will be measured by your ability to formulate and support complex ideas, build and appraise arguments, and sustain a focused and coherent discussion.
How can Nashville GRE prep help me prepare for the exam?
Varsity Tutors can connect you with two of the most effective types of GRE prep: online classes and private tutoring. To take full advantage of each method, it's important to understand the unique benefits that each type of review offers.
Enrolling in a Nashville GRE prep class means that you will join a group of peers in a collaborative virtual classroom led by a qualified instructor. Group learning has shown to help increase retention rates and foster a deeper understanding of the subjects being taught, and the ability to make connections with other students while studying for the GRE appeals to many learners. Studying in a group format allows you to troubleshoot with your peers as well as share perspectives, ideas, and tricks for navigating different topics within the test. If you are struggling with deconstructing text passages in order to isolate supporting claims and evaluate arguments, you can schedule one-on-one time with your instructor to focus on critical analysis techniques. Varsity Tutors can set you up with two- or four-week classes. New sessions start weekly.
If you prefer a more individualized approach to test prep, working with a Nashville GRE tutor is a great way to focus specifically on your perceived areas of need. Your instructor can meet you online or in-person to ensure maximum flexibility. Working one-on-one with an instructor allows you to continually adapt your study plan as your needs shift. If you feel like you've mastered the elements and skills needed for the Quantitative Reasoning section, you can immediately transition to your next area of opportunity. Your instructor can take the time to learn your skills, strengths, and goals in order to tailor your lessons to fit your needs and learning style.

Zeeshan: Nashville GRE test prep instructor
I am currently doing a PhD in Economics from Vanderbilt University, and have a lot of experience teaching economics and math. I also have a master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Maryland. I live in Nashville with my family. When I'm not studying, I enjoy swimming, reading, chess, skating and chilling.... I try to explain the concept to the student in a way that makes sense so the student really 'understands' as opposed to memorize something temporarily. I am good at explaining concepts in simple English and using everyday examples. At the same time, I can also handle difficult math if you need higher-level help. I do a pretty good job of talking to students at the level they are comfortable with. I try to go slow enough that you understand the material, but not so slow that I waste your time. I have a strong grasp on all areas of economics and math, but my favorite are microeconomics and game theory.
