Whether you have already started studying for the GRE and have run into problems or you are just beginning your GRE prep, signing up for a Miami GRE class through Varsity Tutors could be helpful in terms of preparing for the exam. The GRE is used by many colleges and universities as a part of their admissions process into graduate school. The GRE is given in over 160 countries across the world and is typically available to take on a computer in most of those countries. The test takes approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes to finish and has three sections.
As the GRE plays a major role in determining whether you get into a graduate school like the University of Miami or Miami University, working through a Miami GRE course can be useful in making sure you have a chance to perform your best on the exam.
The GRE covers a lot of material across several subject areas. You will need to be proficient in reading, math, and writing to have a chance at performing well on the exam. If some of these subject areas lie outside of your areas of expertise, working with an instructor in a Miami GRE course could be beneficial.
What can a Miami GRE class help me review?
The GRE consists of three sections, including Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. An instructor in a Miami GRE class can help you review all of these.
The Verbal Reasoning section contains 40 questions and you will have 60 minutes to finish it. It is scored between 130 and 170 points and covers three main types of questions. Some of the questions in this section cover sentence equivalence. These questions look at your ability to be able to look at the information within a sentence and choose the best answer to complete the missing information. These questions provide 6 answer options.
Verbal Reasoning also contains questions concerning text completion. These questions require you to read through short passages and determine the correct response for filling in the blank sections of the passage. Finally, the reading comprehension questions require you to read through passages that can be either one paragraph or several paragraphs long. There are around 10 passages on the test and there are usually between one and six questions about each passage.
The Verbal Reasoning section tests for several skills that are considered important when predicting success in graduate school. Some of these skills include being able to summarize a passage, being able to interpret the meaning of information based on context, being able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a particular argument, and being able to reach conclusions by analyzing text, among others.
The Quantitative Reasoning section contains 40 questions and is graded between 130 and 170 points. However, you will have 70 minutes to finish it and it is concerned with math-related concepts. This section is designed to examine your ability to solve problems by using quantitative methods, your ability to understand math concepts, and your ability to do basic math. This section covers data analysis, geometry, algebra, and arithmetic. The types of questions involved in this section include quantitative comparison, multiple choice, and numeric entry.
The Analytical Writing section contains two questions and is graded between 0 and 6 points. You will have 60 minutes to finish it, with 30 minutes dedicated to each question. One of the questions involves being able to analyze an argument while the other question involves being able to analyze an issue. This section is designed to look at your ability to maintain a coherent discussion, your ability to support ideas with examples and logic, and your ability to explain concepts clearly and effectively.
How can a Miami GRE course help me prepare?
There are a variety of ways in which a Miami GRE course could help you prepare. One of the major ways a GRE course can help you prepare is by reviewing material that may be on the test. Whether you need help going over unfamiliar vocabulary words or math concepts that you never quite got the hang of, working with an instructor in a Miami GRE course can help.
One of the benefits of signing up for a Miami GRE course through Varsity Tutors is that the course takes place entirely online. As such, it is easier to fit a course into your schedule because you don't have to commute. You can take the course anywhere you have an Internet connection. Your course will be led by an instructor and you will also be working alongside other students. This can be beneficial because it allows for discussion and collaboration. For example, your peers may have ideas for studying that your instructor may not think of.
Working through a Miami GRE class can also be helpful in terms of preparing for the Analytical Writing section. Your instructor can go over several strategies that could prove useful when planning out and writing your responses in this section.
In addition to reviewing material for the exam, it can also be useful to go over test-taking strategies you can utilize on test day. It is important to understand how to manage your time so that you can do your best to answer every question in each section. Your instructor can provide you with practice tests so that you can get a better idea of exactly how much time you can take on each question in order to have enough time to finish all of them. Additionally, being able to manage your time can be useful when it comes to cutting down on careless mistakes. Leaving yourself extra time at the end of each section can come in handy because it gives you time to go back over your answers and make sure you didn't make a mistake on a question you know.
